Hello, I have a 1979 2F, can I run an older 1F Thermostat housing or is a 2F one recommended? Do I need to use the oil cooler from the 2f?

Prices for a 2F t stat housing are CRAZY...

Thank you!

Maybe post in the classified for the one you have to replace. Myself my 72 doesn't have all that extra stuff. and I'm glad. The oil cooler I have seen are so small how effective could they be?

Not sure if this helps you, but here's the thermostat housing for my desmogged 79 2F with oil cooler. I was under the impression that the 1F bolt pattern was different?

About the oil cooler, I'd keep it if you can as Toyota put it there for a reason. But maybe it's not needed as much on a desmogged engine in a colder climate. Definitely cleaner without it.

One more consideration about deleting the oil cooler, the other end of the oil cooler goes to the water pump. You'd have to figure out what to do with that (see red hose in the bottom of the last pic).

The biggest advantage of the ‘79 upper housing is that it aims directly for the height of the upper radiator connection, which means you can use a simple elbow hose, readily available just about anywhere. The 67-78 upper housings all sit ‘low’ compared to the’79, so they need a double elbow to go back AND down. Not as readily available.

But yes, the earlier upper housings are readily available cheaply. In fact I have a nice one on the shop floor you can have for free with a qualifying order.😉

Thank you very much! I have two older housings here but would be happy to purchase a 79 from you if you come across one!
