Yep, I did the bread technique as well. It worked like a charm!! :)

Yep. Crazy. Just watched your vid on the throwout bearing. Thanks! Going to get to that next.
I packed it full of greese first and tried that, but the grease kept squirting out. Used about a half a piece of soft wheat bread and it pushed right out.

This morning I was supposed to exercise before work. Went out to my shop to take a few photos so I could “study” what I need to do when I have some downtime later on. Then I saw that old messy clutch fork sitting on my table…

I wonder how that will clean up? So I just took a little wire wheel to it for a few minutes… Then 10, 15…
I wonder how this thing comes apart? Maybe I should try to knock this throwout bearing off. Well that was finicky and took a while (not one who gives up easy ) so then I thought maybe I should just clean this whole thing up and put it back together…

Then of course I have to tell about it on mud… Oh shoot, I have to leave for work in 20 minutes. Cobwebs continue to live on the exercise bike. 😁

Thanks city racer and SOR for more shiny new parts.

Made some good progress today. Got the new rear main seal in as well as the new pilot bearing. Then mounted the flywheel. New bolts from SOR. Blue thread locker and torqued to 47-50 ft/lbs. Got the clutch disc and clutch plate mounted and torqued to 15 ft/lbs. Alignment tool gets the disc lined up before tightening the clutch plate. Used a pry bar in the flywheel to stop from spinning while tightening.

Heater “warm” cable update… apparently they aren’t easy to get and they’re expensive! The cable has pulled out of the rigid part behind the dash. I’m thinking maybe I can jam it back in and re-crimp yes?

Nope. Don’t have to drop the pan to get to the seal. It went in pretty easily. Mostly by hand then light tapping with a small hammer and a plastic dowel. I did buy a new oil pan gasket and I planned on replacing it but there really isn’t any leaking and I just didn’t have the energy….again, I’ve never done this before so hopefully you don’t know something I should’ve done different. I’ll be really bummed if it leaks. 😕

yeah ive heard can be done as you say but others say to drop the pan route - im with you as to why i asked because my pan pretty solid with no leaks and why mess with it
Yeah, maybe try and run the engine before you go reinstall the trans / tcase to confirm you don't have a leak from the new rear main. It would be a shame to have to pull it all apart again if there is a leak.

Did you grease the seal completely before installing?

Uh oh….no. I oiled it to slip in better…didn’t use grease. Do I need to take it all apart? 😩
If you oiled it - you should be fine, as long as you put oil on the seal surfaces else it will rip on first start. Grease is preferred because it’s more stable while you wait to start it, won’t drip out like oil.

Got my gas tank off the shelf today. It’s been there awhile. I didn’t examine it too close when I took it out but the inside looked clean and the outside was just some surface rust…I thought. Went at the underside with a wire wheel and the rust underneath is bad. Right in the same spots where the holes in the floor were. ugh! Of course it’s rusty! Anyway…decided not to tempt fate and ordered a reproduction from CCOT. The spending never ends!

Couple really bad rust areas like this….

Dismantled my heater. Got it all cleaned up and the foam replaced on the flapper doors. The only foam I could find was from the craft store. About an eighth of an inch thick. Comes in 8 x 11 sheets. We’ll see how it holds up.. The core was a mess. Thanks 40 Channel for another good video. I got in trouble for cleaning it up in the kitchen sink and using the dish scrubby. I don’t see what the issue is. Anyway got the hoses hooked up and the rear heater in. waiting on the fuel tank and I’ll be able to fire this thing up!
