Ok thanks that’s good advice. I’ll see what I can do. I’ve ordered a fair amount from those guys and always been happy. Had some issues with the rear sill I ordered from them and they bent over backward to help me out and make it right.
Same deal here with the ccot tank--no fitment issues at all, but there were hard things rattling around inside( i didn't call them back as I had ordered stuff from them before and never had a prob-figured it was just mill-scale or a weld gob--psi test was good, so I flushed it out(over and over) till I got the two weld bbs that was causing the noise--after all that shaking the paint had gotten scratched--so I POR 15 the whole thing--been running 12 yrs with no issues

Good to know!

Tried to get the pilot bearing out with a cheap bearing puller but didn’t want to try too hard. Then guess what worked? The bread method! I was absolutely blown away that it really worked. I found a socket that fit the hole of the bearing and a bolt to plug the end and grabbed an old English muffin! Filled the hole as much as I could and then hammered it in, filled some more and hammered… Bearing slowly came out and then boom… had to laugh because what a crazy method but it works!View attachment 3210596View attachment 3210589

Wait… what?

Really cool and inspiring thread. When I got mine a couple years ago, my then 5yo daughter took a shine to the angle grinder. Plenty of rust to have me chasing after her with Ospho.

Good stuff dude, appreciate the time you took to document this.

Thanks I really appreciate that. Keep your daughter interested. It will pay off down the road. Plus every kid should learn to drive a stick! 😁

My son will be learning to drive on the 40 soon.
Had to explain to him the other day why I “keep moving that stick around”.

I weep for my clutch in advance…

Yesterday I borrowed a friend and we were able to coax the transmission in. A combination of hoisting from above and floor Jack from below. Took about 45 mins of tweaking and coaxing and then all of a sudden it just slid in. So satisfying. Hard to believe something that heavy just hangs off the bell housing w 4 bolts.

Got it all torqued down and then filled the trans and transfer case with gear oil. Then it started leaking…I forgot that the parking brake drum also seals the back output shaft…..ugh. The correct thing would have been to drain the case and start over. That’s not how I do things. Figured I could get the mechanism installed and drum on while managing the small stream of 90wt. I forgot that the parking brake hates me. Got it all together including oil on the shoes 😐 and everything else, pulled the brake handle and realized the cable had disconnected inside the drum. Took it apart again…more oil mess but finally got it back together. Then discovered that the retainer clip that holds the handle side of the cable on had corroded away and wouldn’t keep the cable in. A little bailing wire for now…

Transmission install…..45 mins with great satisfaction
Parking brake install….3 hours and ready to roll the thing off a cliff.

All self induced.

Front drive shaft is on. I find it really hard to get those bolts torqued down. Hard to get a wrench or socket on them. Anyway, I got them as tight as I could with a little blue Loctite. I will check them frequently. Rear today. I want to replace a couple of the fuel lines under the hood, and then I’m gonna put gas in this thing and try to get it running. It’s been a while!

Yep, sounds about right to me!

All real mechanics have oil stains in their garages and driveways :D.

Had to drive it!

Definitely got to keep that seat in there, no need for a seatbelt.

Congratulations, I’ve had that smile from getting an old girl going again. I often walk by and fire A Girl Named Norman up just to make sure I’m not dreaming. Still fragile, but I take her on beer runs and auto parts store outings to “work out the bugs” but I’m cop watching the whole time with plates that expired in ‘92.

She’s insured though 🤷🏽

That chair was my grandmas! She’d be happy! I’ve gone out and started it 3 times this eve so I understand!
92 plates! Haha. Nice.

Sitting here with Coolerman wiring diagrams. Lots not working. I think I’ve got some good ideas.

His diagrams were/are paramount in getting my sh!t sorted to the degree they are. Such an amazing resource he @Coolerman, and this whole forum is. And you! You are an inspiration that is so needed working on these. Thank you for sharing your time with us.

Got the seats in and working on electrical gremlins…right turn signals don’t work and the headlights blow the fuse within a few seconds of turning on. Haven’t spent too much time on that yet. I’ll figure it out. As always it’s most likely a grounding issue. Cut out a birds nest of wires from PO’s trailer wiring and who knows what else. Drove into town tonight. Had to refresh myself on hand signals. 😁. So fun to be back on the road. Not a big fan of the old upholstery but new seat covers gonna have to wait for now.
