The speedmarker detector is inline with speedo cable-has 2 wires at approx 10" away from speedo cable end at TC which then go to the relay then to the VSV (vacuum switch valve). Not part of TC but emissions/distributor retard function.

Yep. You’d have it still there with a 2 piece speedo and a the speed marker is in between the 2 cables at the t-case end. Can replace the whole thing with a 1 piece cable, especially if either of the stock cables are broken since I believe they are NLA.

If the existing cables are still functional, just unplug the wires. Believe the wires are blue/red and come out of the harness at the firewall right by the brake master cylinder warning wires.

Wow now I know what those 2 wires were for Just beware that 1 is hot when key is on. The nuts on the wiper arms you can get from McMaster Carr. I looked and my purchase history is gone they are a knurled type and a little larger than stock.

I had to have a speedo cable maker in Reno, NV make a 10" section for me. I ordered a Camry section hoping it will fit too!

So here is the deal with the wipers. Because the arms have inset holes, a regular nut ain't going to work, knurled or not.

Something has to fit in there so that you can tighten the nut. Any ideas?

They look kind of like the valve cover nuts, but smaller.

In a pinch, or temporarily (or long term, who cares) you could use the proper thread coupling nut with a washer. Then you could get a wrench or socket on the end.

As I slowly and laboriously go through this process, I learn all sorts of things.

Today, perusing Cooler-Man's website, I discovered that I need to match the sensors (oil pressure and water temp) to the gauges.

I have a 1984 2F and my instrument cluster is a 1969. I believe I ordered the oil pressure sensor for a 1975, as neither engine had a functional one present.

How interchangeable are the sensors? Do they all just have the same threads, or is this going to be yet another overcomplicated mess?

I think they're interchangeable, the only difference is later models have an (additional) external ground tab as opposed to ground thru the body.

I've also discovered an inordinate amount of yellow/red (Yellow wire with red stripe) in the engine bay side of the wiring loom.

According to my wiring diagram, yellow/red is only used in the fuel level and vacuum valve circuit. Going to leave the wire there, but not use it, in case I'm dramatically wrong about this.

Mavis has her face put back on. Waiting on parts so I shot some stone white duplicolor on the bezel, which is darned close to the original paint. I tried to save the original color but too much had been sanded off at some earlier point of it's life.
