as I go about repairing and un-doing all of the things the PO did to my new 3/1970 F-40 I have hit a wall regarding the wipers. I'm trying to source the elusive wiper nut (see picture) to fit my cruiser. I won a bid on eBay for two only to find the source didn't actually have the part. I'm disgusted with the price that SOR is charging for these so I'm asking those in the know.....

Has anyone located a decent source for these nuts, or aware of another Toyota vehicle that uses the common part?

I used a Volkswagon bus wiper arm nut. I believe it was from the early 70s. I paid $8 shipped for it. It was not a perfect match but it works. I got it from a company called ISP West. I planned to order a spare but still looking for that elusive round Tuit. LOL I think that they are no longer making these anymore but if you can find them they will work. Terry

Yoyokid And I were thiinking out loud about this a few months ago. The threaded end of the stem is a simple 6x1.0. For how seldom you ever have need to remove these, it shouldn't be anything to take a piece of round stock, drill and tap a hole for the stem and be done. You could make them out of brass. You could cut a slot across the top to make it useful with a screwdriver. You could file two flats on it if you wanted to use a wrench.

Chances are, you could even get ahold of some flanged nuts that would be wide enough to span the recess in the wiper arm.

Pappy, thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to order a few and see how that works. Beats paying SOR's over priced ones.

so, the Mcmaster.com idea didn't pan out as they didn't have a close dimension. Is anyone aware of another Toyota vehicle that used these same shoulder nuts?

I was working on a 68 a few months back where these were lost when it was taken apart. I was thinking about machining something on a friend's lathe then remembered I would have to charge the owner for my time. So I just bought them from SOR. Wound up being a lot cheaper than my time to make something. But if it were my own truck I would have spent the time.

As soon as I get a new battery for my digital caliper, I will post up dimensions. In the meantime, I did hold up a 6mm flanged nut to the stock one, and the flange is a bit wider than the shoulder, so I know it could be ground down and used as one option.

I have a feeling getting a small quantity reproduced will cost a lot more than the $12 Spector charges for a used one.
MUD Classified / Wanted section would be another option.

Only 12.00? They dropped the price. Six or seven years back, can't quite remember, when Toyota discontinued these, they were just under 3.50.
Pretty sure Marv bought up all remaining stock. I needed one for a resto . He charged about 19.50 back then. Looking back it was a good buy since the truck brought much more than than it would have without wipers.
The stock ones are stainless steel. Unless you plan on building them by the 100 , 12.00 is probably a bargain. If this isn't a truck up for sale the McMaster Carr style will get the job done. On the other hand if you spend the 12.00 it will probably last a lifetime. they don't go bad , they get misplaced

Answered! I found these on eBay, cost me $4.88 for four of them. They fit perfect and work great. No, they don't look as good as the stock ones but these are cheap and work. Search for: M6 - 1.0 Square nut ~ shoulder . The seller was a guy called "jrcj7' and only charged $3.00 for quick shipping from utah.

I also have a 1970, My wiring to the motor does not have the plastic connector. The side coming in has 3 wires, a ground and two others. The wires from the motor has a 4 wire connector. Do you know what hooks to what on the connector. I didn't want to burn the motor up hooking it up wrong. Don't mean to hijack but I am not much of an electrician. Thanks
