I think it would be way cool to bring that down for Back to the 50's.

When and where is that? Hopefully I might be semi done :)

As You Can See From The Above Pic. I Can Have Anything Made For You.....

I have a question for you Shane.

Are your data plates an actual plate or decal? I think there cool either way and it really doesn't matter, I was just curious?

Thanks, Matt

I bought two differnt plates and they look indentical to the original. However, I was looking at the powerwagon catalog the other day noticed they have really good prices on the plates. Just make me wonder what vendor the Power wagon people use.

What did you end up using for body mounts? Did you make them yourself? Any body lift?

Dan,

I ended up using 4 mounts out of an FJ40 kit up front and the other 10 out of a generic kit I bought off of ebay.

In any FJ40 pre-78 mount kit, 2 of the mounts out of the 12 are thicker. 2 of the other FJ40 mount that were used up front had to have a poly pad out of the other kit placed underneath it to get it upto the same height as those other 2 taller ones.

On the rear pads I use the square poly pads that came in that generic body mount kit. I would say almost all were about 3/8" thick, couple had to be shaved, but all were really close. I had to die grind a little here and there on the frame when I bolted up for the last time....but considering what that body has been through I figured it might be a 1/8" of tweaking here or there.

Respect to the Thread and not going another way I will keep this short.

Matt, The plates are so close to OEM that you cant tell unless you have a new OEM and mine in your hands. The process in the same and it is not screen print. I cant even spell the process. I have had alot of input and I will make a few more patterns. Like I said, It would be an honor to donate to this build. Feels good to have a .001 % of something and make that final touch that goes un noticed unless its done. See www.tlcicon.com for the shift plate on that ICON. Best, Shane

Gotta a little done on the lv tonight. Did a little tweaking on the drivers side cowl where it meets the side apron. It didn't line up to well, so with a little tugging and tweaking I think I got it pretty nice.

Also spent some time sanding in the inside, did some sanding on the floor and firewall. Went over the dash with a sanding sponge. I've got a lot of work to do on the inside prior to paint, so it's going to take a little while.

Hopefully this weekend I might be applying some seam sealer and doing a little priming here and there. :)

I know the front end is coming back off or you would have cut them in...........just curious, what do you like up there that kept you from painting the insides....
BTW great work.

Hi Butch,

Fogive me for my dumbness, but I'm not really understanding the question? Could you clarify just a little bit more?

Thanks, Matt

He wants to know why you didn't cut the front clip in (color) before you put it back together ... in Texan speak :flipoff2:

Tucker

Oh........, Texas talk...... :D

There are a few more things that are going to get nailed down into the fenders, also plan on welding every hole shut in the fenders that isn't being used.

It won't be much, but basicly after I have a running vehicle, the front clip will get taken back of to get jammed and then back on for final paint.

Does that answer your question?

Matt

All I can say is DAMN.

This is simply beautiful. I have been following this since day one and it seems like only a few months ago I was asking where you found it. :) This thread is so amazing that time is flying. I know you are working at a VERY fast pace but man I love reading 3 pages every couple days. It is truly a highlight in my week. Thanks.

Chip Foose and the Overhauling crew would have been done in a week.......:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

May be fast, but it is amazingly thorough, and far better than many build/restorations that I have seen that have taken over five-plus years.

Fantastic work, on both projects pal! ;)

Matt, why aren't you a strong swimmer? you live by the lake!

Once again, thanks for all the compliments and words of encouragement. You guys aren't helping with de-flating my ego though ;)

Trying to do the best job possible in the shortest amount of time. I guess most of the fun is doing the work, wouldn't be doing it if I didn't like it. But, at the same time I want to finish, fun to see it done. Also, I know how many types of projects like this start and fail, or drag on for years and years. I don't want to loose any momentium so trying to see it right to the end. Still hoping to run across a good deal on a lwb, I would love to do a semi-stock build on one of those.

And Mike to answer your question, "Not a very strong swimmer" above my aviatar. I am a very strong swimmer, I love the water, pretty much grew up in it. It's more of an inside joke in my head that makes me laugh, and maybe a couple other people might know where that phrase comes from. It's from an old Saturday night live epsode when Martin Short was a cast member from probably 20 years ago. They did a bit where Martin and another guy were training for 2 man - choriagraphed swimming for the Olyimpics......even though it wasn't an Olympic event, they were still training for it. The other actor that was Martin's partner was extremely nerding, couldn't swim worth a sh-t and had to wear a life vest while he was in the pool. During an interview with the 2 out of the pool they were asking him why he was wearing a life vest. And he answered in a very nerding, quiet, muffled voice.....,"I'm not a very strong swimmer".

Anyway, that's where it came from and in my head it makes me laugh. Stupid I know, but I don't care :)
