BIG DITTO ON THAT!!!!

and i need to clarify my earlier post. "the ideas i get" pertain to my own future projects, or at least pipe dreams. but i can guarantee you that if there's an idea i might have for your rig that's worth contributing, i will certainly do so.

i had a boat load of stereo stuff in "orange". i mounted the amps and crossover behind one of the panels in the rear compartment but had to make a new wooden cover cause the electronics were too thick to tuck in there tightly. the reason why i mounted them there was because i did wheel that LV, even in fairly deep mud. gotta keep that stuff dry. in your case, mounting whatever aux. stereo equipment under the seat would work just fine. i would also not hesitate to run the stereo and speaker wiring under the truck. as long as it's done in yor usual fashion, i see no reason not to do so.
i had a pair of 6x9 speakers mounted in the rear doors but they were too thick and would'nt let the window roll down all the way. i also had a pair of 4" speakers and tweeters in the front doors which cleared just fine. combine all that with a pair of 12s in a pair of boxes in the back and you have yourself a concert hall. large interriors can be good for all kinds of stuff.

another idea i had when building my first LV was to run the hoses for the rear heater under the rig. the stock location for them is so intrusive to a clean interrior.

I'm I missing something here......do I need a larger brake pedal?

I think it is asthetics, and some degree of safety.

1. All cars-trucks I know of with an auto have a larger brake pedal

2. Larger pedal is a bit easier to hit, since we all are used to a larger one in an auto.

I think it would more eye friendly to see an auto style pedal down there.

Stay with the small pedal. My '97 Taco is an automatic and it has a small brake pedal; at least it's much smaller than the '97 Land Cruiser brake pedal.

I'll echo Exiled's comments about this project. I review this thread every day and really enjoy seeing the progress. (Note to Woody: Please do nightly backups. :D )

Another solid day on the lv, about 8 hours.

Started off the day by making threaded plates for the neutral saftey relay on the fire wall. Figured if I threaded a plate and welded it on, it would be easier to take on and off. Also made a a reinforcing plate for the middle AC mounts.

Made another decision on the AC area. I decide to pretty much gut the majority of it out. After welding up the ash tray area I realized how I couldn't see anything back there, let alone start pulling wires when that time comes. So, I really opened it up. This way I can at least get my hand back in there through the glove compartment door. Also drilled 4 - 1 1/4" holes in the bottom of the glove compartment for the rubber grommets. The AC lines and heater lines will come down through there and turn into the firewall area, still have to cut those holes in that plate I made.

Figured I would mount up the steering column, just to make sure that fit. Fit pretty decent, except the set screws on the lower U-joint would hit the radiator core support. Looks as though I am going to have to move it about an inch or so to the passenger side. It actually isn't centered right now, it was the core support out of the 79, they must mount different? No big deal.

Wife also wanted a working glove box door, even though it's totally useless. She didn't want 4 bolts holding it on. I couldn't use the original glove box door since it mounted down in the glove box and that couldn't happen anymore. So I used the door out of the 79. I had to weld a 1/2" strip plate to the edge of the dash inside the door area. Then welded 2 captive nuts underneath for it to bolt to. I actually cut the tab out of the 79 that holds the wire and welded that on, since the orginal didn't have that style.

Matt,

The LV is looking great!

Are you going to fabricate a new shift pattern badge that corresponds with your new trans/diff for the glovebox door as well?

I don't think I'm that good ;p

The one on there might have to do.

I like the idea of making plates for the AC relays better than the first option you previously. Have you considered placing a plexi-glass cover on top of the relays for protection or cosmatic looks? Looks great and keep the pics coming.....I like how it's coming along.

The OEM plug style filler necks that came on the 66/67 LVs do not work very well. It is an art to fill the tank without spilling gas on myself and the side of the truck.

This pic is the OE style the 64-65 LVs came with. The gas cap isn't correct though.

Yep, that's the same filler neck, just blasted and painted now. I remember posting that, just couldn't remember the answer, thought I would make sure.

Probably drill it in tonight.

All this talk about 45 wagons is overwhelming. I think I might have to put in atleast one hour towards my wagon's completion.

I sure wish I just farmed the thing out so I might be closer then I am.

Matt, as usual your work is amazing. Have fun and keep it up!

Nice progress man. That was a productive day
