I dug into my broken early side mirror tonight. (While keeping the shape totally intact.) Attaching a few pictures below, but I’ll talk about it a little more tomorrow.

Considering talking to a local metal stamping place to see what it might take to make these...

Then there's the Wrigley's mirror restoration technique favored by my PO:

Can anyone tell me if this is a factory side mirror? It was on this FJ40 when I got it, but my other (early-64) has the simple round mirror. Could this have been during a changeover?

And just for reference, here’s the back of the rear-view mirror. Factory, and definitely different from my early-64. They have a very similar look to them.

Hang on to that inside mirror. However,... lol.

There are later ‘65s that have a different one, iirc.

I think the outside one is original.

Saw one of those rear view mirrors on a rig in a Spokane CL post. I think it's still up. Maybe the seller would part with it alone.

Hey guys! I've made some great progress on disassembling the truck, and I'm being a little particular about bagging up and organizing hardware as I go. Obviously, I've been bad about posting photos–but I've taken a lot of them.

Not sure if it's going to be helpful to anyone else, but maybe I'll add updates to this thread in groups of components, as things are disassembled.

Here's how it looks as of last night. Let me know if you'd like to see photos of anything specific as I go.

Has anyone seen these OEM fuel tank felt pads? Does anyone make them anymore?

I don't believe you can get original but thefeltstore.com sells different thicknesses (up to an 1") of grey felt that you could cut into your required size. I haven't purchased any myself yet. This is on my list for future requirements.

Sub’d

Passenger side exhaust? Like the dealer installed sunvisor. Are you pulling the tub?

Nice thread. I am getting back my
old 65 FST in a month, so nice to see some else going down a similar road :)

I’ll pull them off and get some measurements for you guys in case anyone else wants to make their own.

Anyone know what years the short and long version mirror arms were used? My truck had a short one on the driver's side, and a (dealer-installed?) long mirror on the passenger side.

Here are the 2:

So, I have another mystery that I’m trying to solve about the footman loops that hold the straps for the soft top.

I know that this is a late-64 factory soft top. Being a factory soft top, I would expect to have 12 footman loops— 6 on the fold-down tailgate and 3 on either side.

On this truck, I’m missing the loops on the body. Comparing to my early-64 FJ40, I know exactly where they should be. I thought that perhaps they had just been covered when the truck was repainted. If that’s the case, I would expect to see indications of those holes filled in when I strip back the paint. So, tonight I wanted to check it out.

After stripping back the paint in one of the spots a footman loops hole should be, there is nothing there.

Take a look at the photo. (You’ll see the layers of primer and paint) but, the metal doesn’t really show anything that I can tell.

Does anyone know if around 1965 they changed anything on the top to not need the outside footman loops and only the 6 on the tailgate?

Here’s what it looks like inside. Only seeing factory weld spots.
