I've been off the forums for a while here, but still have my LC! As many probably know, I've done quite a few write ups here. One thing that has recently started to bug me is the factory head unit. The navigation is worthless and I'm always using my phone. Second, I have a bluetooth adapter for music, but it's obviously not integrated with the factory controls.

I've been eyeing these "Tesla-style" head units for some time, but several things have held me back. Specifically the integration with factory components (backup camera, rear entertainment, steering wheel controls, etc). Also, many take 30+ seconds to boot.

This new model sold by Phoenix Automotive has me really interested. It's a 17" six-core unit running Android 9 and "fast boot". Claims full integration with all vehicle functions.

Here's a link: [ PX6 six-core ] 17" Vertical Screen Android 9.0 Fast boot Navi Radio for Toyota Land Cruiser LC200 2008 - 2015

As an FYI, they sell four different models, but this appears to be the latest/greatest.

16" VERTICAL SCREEN ANDROID NAVI RADIO FOR TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 2008 - 2015

[ PX6 SIX-CORE ] 17" VERTICAL SCREEN ANDROID 9.0 FAST BOOT NAVI RADIO FOR TOYOTA LAND CRUISER LC200 2008 - 2015

I have an email out to them with a few questions, but if I were to pull the plug, would others be interested in a video and write up here?

Has anyone done one of these before? I searched for posts but came up empty handed, so if you know if any I'd greatly appreciate a link!

Thanks :)

Subscribed. I have hesitated for more or less the same reasons but this one seems like a strong contender. My only concern is that I have added a number of navi bypasses and a gear box mod that intercept the speed sensor wires behind the head unit. I am assuming they will remain in place when I fit the unit but cant be sure.

Very interested in a writeup. Assuming the fundamentals work as advertised, the addition of Apple CarPlay (with GAIA) is the one 'killer app' that will make my current LC a long term vehicle. Also interested in seeing how some of the bluetooth android apps do for controlling a HAM radio. I feel like with true 5G just around the corner, there is a lot to be gained through this kind of mod if the hardware is up to snuff.

Would this be the right bill of materials? Also, a decent discount using code 'holidays19'.

What HAM apps are you using?

All the Android units can be set to “fast boot”, it’s just a setting that specifies how long it will stay in sleep before shutting down. I have mine set to only 30 seconds because sleep mode drains the car battery faster. I don’t mind the 30 second boot time because the reverse camera works even if the radio is booting. I have a non-Tesla unit and I’ve been very happy with it

min not actually using any but I did see either an ICOM or Something that had an Android app that could control the radio. I immediately thought of this setup and wondered if it would be viable to have the radio mounted out of sight and an Android app controlling it from the head unit.

The one hesitation for me is if/how it integrates back into the JBL processors and amps. I don't want to buy and install to find out the sound completely sucks now and then have to prepare a complete custom stereo install of amps, speakers and subs.
If that is necessary, then I want to know before I buy in order to plan accordingly, But- I don't want to spend the $800, install and be disappointed while I drive around, and then have to plan the upgrade and a second install. I will do all the work myself, but hate wasting time on a second install.

There are a couple other threads around here discussing the installs. The biggest issue I had with the old version (not the same model) is that the hard buttons for the temperature control didn’t work. That’s an issue for me. There’s a review of the latest and greatest screen for an LX570- the temperature control buttons were integrated into the unit from Phoenix.

Do any of these units have a program to use the cameras to produce a 360 camera app?

can use an after market system and plug it into the screen unit.

Looking forward to the install

Looks like others have had some luck and there is lost of research out there

The one you are looking at says fast boot. The install in the threads discussed a 25-30 second boot. Does this one address that?

That long delay would drive me crazy...

I assume in your unit you cannot play regular radio while in the android system as playing MP3, etc. You are limited to android and to play radio you need to exit it out?

Nope, you can listen to the radio just like in a regular car radio. You never leave the Android system. The only time the radio will close is when you open another media source such as bluetooth A2DP, USB, AV Aux in, Spotify etc. You can have the radio playing while you have another app on the screen like Google maps, Waze or Carplay.

I like this setup. Does the 16" have 4G SIM option? Also couldn't tell if the Apple CarPlay was wireless or not. Overall both the 10" and 16" seem very well put together.
