I am going to buy 5 16in. split rims that are from Saudi. Can I put FJ40 hub caps on these rims??
The rims came off a Saudi FJ45. I believe that he has 4 more that he will sell also if anyone is interested.
My rims are coming with the original Saudi tires. The other 4 he has will not have sneakers on them!!

I will post pics of them on my 60 if I pick them up this morning and get them rebalanced. He is telling me to just put them on
but I don't need a good vibration going down the road with these rims. Not sure how they balance wheels and tires in Saudi. I would assume
its the same way we do it here in the good old U.S.

Yes the caps fit.

Yes the caps fit.
I'm a bit confused. All of the 16" splits I have seen here in Saudi do not have the clips for the 40 hubcaps. The 60 series center caps would fit but not the dish hubcaps from the 40's.

Pics below are representative of what we have over here.

Landpimper help me out here. What is the correct answer? Going to take a break working on my 60 and go
next store and take a look at these rims. I guess I will look for those clips.

No clips for 40 hubcaps. I would have to weld them onto the rims if I want to use FJ40
hubcaps. Not sure if I am going to get these rims. Don't want to deal with the rubber tubes and other
piece of rubber that i need.

I'm sure they know what they're doing, dealing with splits every day, but out on the road ....

My 45 truck came with 16" splits(maybe from canada) with hub cap clips, they are on another 40 now but always assumed they took the 40 series caps, because why have the clips.....but I never tried putting a cap on

Only pic I hAve handy. Try to get one latter......

But some markets did get 16 splist and clips.

I have never heard of this happening with the Toyota split rims. Ive watched the guys that do them in the tyre shops and they don't take any precautons.

I like the split rims, almost bought some from SOR, but I'm just afraid of 'em. No experience.

:meh:

Never looked close till today.

So I won't promise these were not home made, I say thst because the clips are not welded or rivited, they are screwed on.

I sometimes go to a tyre shop that specialises in landcruiser 16 inch tyres and split rims. A lot of famers and miners use them. They have 2-3 big guys changing split rims all day(I hate it, its hard work if you haven't done many), but they don't use cages.

I agree with Roscoe. Split rims get a bad rap. The dangers presented by big truck and heavy equipment tires is a completely different animal than the split rims we get on landcruisers.

They are a huge pain in the butt, and I wouldn't want to live with them. In fact my 2015 70 series came with them and I swapped them out as quick as I could. But they aren't going to explode and cut your head off.

Split ring rims, those made by Mr. Toyoda, can easily be serviced by the owner as long as (s)he knows what to do. Id suggest searching in the tires and rims section. To start here is a link:
Split rims, bias ply tires, tubes, and tube liners

The perceived danger of assembly and mounting a tire can be reduced. The one area that I have found is the danger with split ring rims is in the case of a high speed puncture. I still run splits, but my experience with the blowout made me rethink using them.
