I should have bought this setup when it was on sale... I'm more concerned with performance gains than the sound, but from the looks of things, the EMS setup must be better than stock! :bang:

There's definitely very good horsepower and torque gains. We did back to back dyno tests of the 100% OEM exhaust, then with the EMSPowered cat-back exhaust w/ stock midpipes, and finally EMSPowered cat-back exhaust w/ EMSPowered midpipes. Dyno's are on the first post of the thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=7901570&postcount=1

Baktash can you give me a ring? Been trying to reach you to get some resonators and a silencer to have my local shop cut into my system. Spoke to Ben on Tuesday and he couldn't help.

Check pm for contact info

Yessir. Just replied to your PM, will call you shortly.

Baktash, any chance of getting another round of group buy/ special?
Very slim chance. But I'll look into it and see if we can for you guys.

I'm guessing the special EMS price expired for us. @ $850 I will have to miss out.

That took most of us out of the game. I could get away with a ~$550 exhaust system. But coming close to $900 with shipping that blows the possibility out of the water. I like my $150 exhaust, it does everything I need it too...make it sound like a V8. Which is the end point for most of us. We drive Land Cruisers, not sports cars.

Alright, forgive me, I do not know a whole lot about modern exhaust systems. I have attempted to read through the majority of the rambljng assed thread and haven't found the info I'm looking for.

I have a stock exhaust, and live in an area which I do not have to pass any DEQs. I would like very much to delete my cats to take advantage of that lack of governmental oversight, and go headers, cat-less mid pipes, and cat back exhaust. Is that option possible without tripping a CEL on my dash? Thanks in advance.

All the owners that are running the EMSPowered cat-less mid-pipes so far have not gotten any check engine codes as far as we're aware.

Sweet, any idea what a headers/midpipes/back exhaust combo will run?

Can anyone with a resonator on this setup share how it affects the 2k drone?

The 2k drone is significant. At about exactly 2k (under load), the exhaust is 10x louder than the rest of the range / shakes everything / feel awkwardly high pressure at my ears. Unfortunately 2k is a majority of city cruising. 20-40 MPH steady coasting.

I don't hear it when in neutral + going through the range.

How does adding a resonator help (in words)? I'd rather not take a blind stab at this but I may be forced to experiment on thursday when I fix whatever the heck is wrong with my rear suspension being too low.

It would be interesting to see if the resonance changes frequency with Stock Manifolds, DT Headers, and the new EMS headers.

I would think maybe some type of balance/resonance weight.

Headers will not change the exhaust note or resonance UNLESS cats or mufflers are changed out. If the back is stock and headers are added you would never know the difference as far as sound is concerned.

I have No Cats, so yes that's sorta how I was thinking of it. I was also referring to at what frequency the drone occurs or if it occurs at all. I am associating the drone as a resonant frequency, since these guys are saying that it does not occur above or below a certain RPM.

So with that in mind would Stock versus your Headers versus long tube headers cause this resonant frequency to change, or go away, or get worse? It would be interesting to know the effects in reference to Cats and no cats.

Is there something external that can help, or is the only fix some type of internal restriction?

Handy to have an exhaust designer here to ask questions of, thanx!

It's definitely a resonant frequency. At a certain point, the entire vehicle becomes a speaker outputting sound. You can just feel it and know it's not coming from the rear but.. everywhere.

It's quieter when putting the pedal to the metal.

PS: I have the EMS double cats.

Let me revisit this statement.

You're saying that you can't make some type of resonance by changing the parameters of the headers? Either primary sizes, primary lengths, making some primaries one size and other primaries another size, etc?

Nick, I am not going to argue with you on this. I am simply going to say that you are wrong and what you've written here is 100% false. Headers on any vehicle, including the Land Cruiser do make the sound different depending on runner length, and if designed properly to flow better, louder as well. This was also the case in every single set of DT headers we have installed on 100 series land cruisers in the past.

The addition of our built in silencer in the tailpipe will reduce volume by about 20% and lessen what people describe as drone.
