Well some progress.

Got the engine off the stand and hanging. Pilot bearing installed, bell housing installed, clutch disc and pressure plate installed.

That's about all today before my knee got a bit tired and sore and I wanted to give it a rest.

A few other tidbits:

Flywheel bolts are specific:

Torquing down these bolts with one person is fun because at around 35-40ft/lbs the crank starts turning. You gotta jam something into the flywheel to keep the crank from turning to get the correct torque on the flywheel bolts. :)

This goes forward facing towards the front of the engine.

Hit those marks with some nice white paint while they're easily accessible. Maybe you can grab a bottle of official Toyota touch up paint to keep it in the family.

Lol
I remember when i put my flywheel on.
Thought i had everything set up and chocked.
Couldn't get the bolts torqued and thought the crank was stripped.
I think i even called Jim in panic.
Come to find out my flywheel chock wasn't quite making contact and the crank would slightly turn near correct torque.
lol man i was sweating. Literally.
Good times.....not

Installed the starter last night. New stud/washer/nut as well as new bolt and washer underneath. Looks clean indeed. Notice the thread differences between the block side and nut side. Nut is the same as the ones for the knuckle studs. :)

Also got some other cool parts in that I've been waiting on for a bit.

New shoe/block for the transfer shifter:

Then a new tranny insulator/mount as well as hardware:

And new bolts for the tranny-to-bellhousing attachment point:

Nice, do they make different speedo gears to compensate for diff gearing or tire size?

Not directly. You can get other speedo gears. For example, the FJ60 gear is 6x16. FJ62 is 6x18.

Yes, there are a few different speedo gears available.

Beno, is there a new boot for the release fork? Install it now, it's almost impossible to get it snapped into the BH hole in chassis.

Yup. Already in there sir.

Beno,
With such a nice motor and new parts are you constantly going to wipe down underneath after a drive?
Looking really good man!
