@Boston Mangler did you do full atf exchange or drain fill? Did you use world standard atf?

I was worried reading that initial reply. Nice move on the drain and fill and using the right stuff. I was thinking your transmission would start slipping if you did a total fluid replacement at this point.Yes. That’s what the bottle looked like. The pic above was the first I grabbed on the web
Ordered it all awhile ago forgot. Yes. Used the right stuff. Thanks for heads up
It would not start slipping using the correct fluid. That is an old wive’s tale.I was worried reading that initial reply. Nice move on the drain and fill and using the right stuff. I was thinking your transmission would start slipping if you did a total fluid replacement at this point.
X2, if the only thing keeping your automatic transmission working is the friction material in the fluid, it's toast. It would not start slipping using the correct fluid. That is an old wive’s tale.

Good to know. Most mechanics I’ve talked to and on the internets including CCN iirc recommend not exchanging/drain & fill after ____ amount of miles (interval). It’s engrained lore for sure. I am hopeful to not ever have my own data point to provide as I’m planning on sticking to a complete fluid exchange every 50k.X2, if the only thing keeping your automatic transmission working is the friction material in the fluid, it's toast.
Careful to not summon a CCN debate… it’s like Beetlejuice around here.Good to know. Remember - whether CCN or your local mechanic, or forums in general, they only remember the worst case scenario not the 100s of times everything was fine.Good to know. Presented as it’s timely. Our trucks are NOT fOrDs, but have to deal with similar technology and heat/service cycles. I’ll stick with my every 50k replacement schedule. Godspeed.
Edit: hit send too quick. Whatever happens, update accordingly. Uneventful? Awesome! I’ll eat crow when warranted - have before and will again! If not (and I hope it is uneventful), please post what happened and what ended up remedying any issue that happened. This will further the mud hive mind.
In line with this discussion, lower viscosity in the US is for CAFE. GM bumped the viscosity to solve their 6.2 bearing problem.
Im betting money GM's next gen V8 is DOHC. I think they squeezed all the juice they could out of the pushrod motor and now all they are getting is seeds.LSJr. usually posts good stuff. He can't keep up with this one though.
iirc, GM withdrew this recommendation less than 4 days after issuing the increased viscosity recommendation. That whole engine lineup seems to be fundamentally designed with issues related to what they're trying to limp across the powertrain line with increased viscosity. Too bad too, as the over complicated nature of cylinder deactivation, etc makes these already complex engines even more so.
lol GM is a joke of a company. Crawl underneath any one of their cars and trucks and see how much quality and durability they cut from their designs.Im betting money GM's next gen V8 is DOHC. They already have the test bed, the LT6 and LT7 in the C8 Corvette.
