How many miles on the current engine? I’m leaning replace, but also replace + refit, you know fix all the items on the new one - seals, cam tower, valley, etc. then drop it in. So more like $9k + install.

Only 45k on replacement engine. Do you think it needs all that? I have 235k on current engine

At 45k, with a side hit, that's a gimme buy. At 45k only 45k would pass on most of those replacements. The only one I'd address while it's out is the valley plate. Pull it and use the sealant from the TSB.

I don't understand what you are saying about gimme buy?

Easy decision. Buy the engine and replace yours.

Oh, I don’t know. It was a fleeting thought I had as I reminisced about pulling, decking, and building heads in my younger days. We worked on much simpler vehicles back then.
True story

Hi do you have the tsb number?

I am in a similar situation with my 200. Valve spring failure, valve dropped = carnage. Donor engine going in now. Actually the donor is in and shop is now buttoning things up. It wasn't an easy decision to make. However my 200 is super clean and she was worth saving. My engine had 167k miles on it. Donor has 70k miles on it. I feel your pain man. Do the math though. In my case, it made sense to do an engine swap.

“Gimme” is a golf term for a short putt that opposing players usually assume is a certainty to go in, so they call it a gimme, not heeding for it to be actually putted. Except when your playing partners are assholes, or pros, same thing.
BTW, do you know why only 45k? Was it sitting around for several years, or someone’s country car tucked away in a vacation home?

Probably someone's country car

Ok. May I ask how much you are paying?

Found another engine long block missing intake. Valve covers and front cover. Only 19k miles on it. My mechanic says my stuff can be transferred over to it. The engine was in a truck that was on fire. Anyone see any problem there? Only asking 3500

Roughly $15k. Donor was around $8k. Had to buy a new intake manifold. Donor's was cracked and mine had metal fall out of it.
Ok. Well I wish you luck. I'm sure you'll be fine we are probably scaring the crap out of everybody with our situations.

Did your mechanic look at the actual fire engine? So many possible issues, my guess is it’s cheap for a reason.

No. I asked for pictures but didn't get any. I'm passing on that one
