So I'm thinking about the best way to recoup some $. Do you guys think it's best to take apart the old engine and sell various parts off it on ebay? What about selling the whole engine as it sits (of course disclosing the issue). Or throw a head gasket on it (assuming that's what the cause of the issue is and not something more sinister) then sell it as a used engine complete? Other than the 20 second misfire on start up it runs like a dream. Still gets 18 mpg on the highway, cruises all day at 80 mph plus, doesn't run hot, burns no oil between 5k mile changes. Any suggestions?

You may have to ship your engine back as a core. Depends on where you get your donor engine from. I kept various bits and bobs off mine ie starter, alternator, ac compressor, water pump.

No core. It's all mine.

I just watched car care nut video about the head gasket failures. Interesting that he said he's only seen this on the drivers side engine bank. Mine is cylinder 4 pass side. Hmmm?

I wonder if toyota will do a recall like they did on older 4runners, etc that had the 3.0 v6?

I am in a similar situation with my 200. Valve spring failure, valve dropped = carnage. Donor engine going in now. Actually the donor is in and shop is now buttoning things up. It wasn't an easy decision to make. However my 200 is super clean and she was worth saving. My engine had 167k miles on it. Donor has 70k miles on it. I feel your pain man. Do the math though. In my case, it made sense to do an engine swap.

Question for you. Did you look for a vin marking on your donor engine? I'm trying to verify my donor engine to what was stated and I can't find a vin on the engine to match with the lx570 it came from. Thanks

The serial number can be found here:

Should start 3UR, followed by "-" and then the plant code (1-9), then a 6 digit serial number.

There was nothing. We looked for a VIN on the engine. The yard that had the engine did not have the LX570 it came out of. Mine had a picture of the donor's odometer. I still wanted the VIN to look up maintenance history etc but we came up empty. I had to just trust the yard and my shop's inspection of the engine upon receipt. I'm going on two weeks and so far all is good.

I solved the riddle. The engraved numbers on the front of the block are a serial number. Using my program here at work (I'm a parts guy at a toyota dealer). Once I put the vin in my program it shows a number next to the 3ur code. In this way I was able to match that number to the vin. Here's what I came up with.
For this to work you have to have the vin first. I was fortunate to have the vin and the engraved numbers. If you ever find the vin let me know I can run it for you
