275 is a 33.4, 285 is a 33.98. Half inch or so, could it be cleared by reducing air in tire.

Hey Pucker this is what I found out:

• 275/70R18 = 33.2”

• 285/65R18 = 33.5”

• 285/70R18 = 33.9”

You think for an 06 the 285/70R18 will fit by reducing the psi?

Others will know this better than i

I balked at 295/70R18s for the extra $60/tire, risk of rubbing, spare tire fit, etc.

Will see how 275/70R18 KM3s look on a mild 1.5" lift. Trying to keep tire width close to stock to not destroy my 11-15mpg.

Its just 1.1" smaller diameter than 295

Show us your km3’s!!!!!

Your tire sizes don't look right to me, using math the sizes should be (although the actual measurements of specific tires may vary):

285/65R18 is ~32.6"
275/70R18 is ~33.2"
285/70R18 is ~33.7"

Got the car back this morning -- tires look mean. 275/70/R18 is a noticeable change. No Ragrets not getting 295/70/R18

Looks good!

Sighhhhhh....running boards.:) I’m totally kidding I actually miss my running boards. Your cruiser is fire!

That side wall looks great. Is your truck lifted or this is sitting on stock suspension?

Only lift is 1.5" medium duty OME rear coil springs. Bilstein 4600s
Thanks gentlemen -- need to address my rusty fenders too :bang:

Are torsion bars turned up? How many turns?

Guys - I am running a stock suspension on a 1999 LX470. Looking at the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain TAs. Anybody know the max tire size with the suspension lowered to get into the garage? I am running 265/70/16 Michelins right now.

285/75r16's would be your best bet. You can push a little taller with 17" wheels, but you'd run into a lot of rubbing issues at stock height.

I had some rugged terrains (P265 70/18) and in 6k I had two tires fail (sidewall bubble). Low load rating. I might have overloaded the tires, or a bad set, but on the second tire they just warrantied the entire set and I moved to E rated tires -- Michelin LTX Defenders (perfect for interstate) - now with 80k and about 50% worn. For 3 years I commuted Tampa>New Orleans 3 or 4 times a month.

I did like the RT's - nice tires, and moving to a heavier tire slowed down the vehicle around town. Since I'm not commuting (as of last month) and hope to see less pavement in the future - I might sell these and go to an A/T tire. Would be nice to go back to a lighter tire, the largest SL or P tire I see is 265/70/18 but for durability will probably go to LT 275/70/18 (E) and gain 1/2 inch or so. The LTX Michelins are an awesome highway tire.

Thanks for all of the input. Well I ended up going with a 265/75 R16 BF Goodrich KO2. I didn't go 285/75 R16 because my height control is wonky and sometimes runs on the low setting up front and I didn't want to jam too much in there. Kind of wish that I would have but was worried about spending more money than the $1250 for the (5) tires. I have about 150 miles on them now and am relatively happy with their on road performance (not as good as the Michelin M/S 2 for noise). Anxious to get off road. Pictures are with the height control set on normal.

Discount also said I'd have to remove front mud flaps to fit 295 Toyos. I said, no they will fit stock un-lifted. 295s are the ticket for non spacer and unlifted.

I'm thinking of stepping up to a 275/70/18 and I've added OEM mud flaps up front. Are you saying that they will fit without rubbing?

Using a tire comparison tool I see that a 295/75/16 is 33.4" and 275/70/18 is 33.2" so I should be good but just looking for some confirmation. Your post was the only one in the thread that mentioned front mud flaps as far as I could find.

I'm running 275/70/18 Michelins...only a very slight AHC lift
No problems at all.
Mine are shot so I may just go to a 305/65/18 unless someone here advises against it. (1 inch wider, 1/4'taller.)

From a couple years back, but if anyone still wants to see a 100% stock (no lift) tire size upgrade to a 285. 2001 Land Cruiser

Only issue was a small interference on the lower spash guard at the outside edge. A gently heatgun application softened the plastic enough to flatten in out slightly and that's all that was required. Full lock-to-lock steering with no rubbing.
