I’m hoping tomorrow to finish the transmission mount. I assume it will take me most of the day since I need to go find some metal in my buddy’s scrap pile. So tonight I did something easy, putting together the turbo. Pretty simple to do. Only issue is finding the smallest plier know to man to install the c clips.

In order for the HE351 to be clocked properly on the 12v you have to remove the roll pin which keeps the two housing oriented for the Dodge common rail trucks. I may have to reclock it once I get the the IC piping and intake. I also need to get a wastegate.

The photos below are the back of the A343F where it mates to transfercase.

I was able to install transfer case yesterday with the Wits’ End adapter. So glad I’m not running the split case in this build.
Looks like the crossmember is within an inch so some sort of adapter will be made. I’m still attempting to keep this build 100% bolt on (except cab to frame). Since the NV4500 mount fits perfectly in the crossmember with no modification I don’t want to hack it up. I have a few ideas for making an adapter so we will see this week if I can make that happen.

I probably should have asked this before you bolted the t-case to the Wits' End adapter plate - Were you able to confirm that the Dutchman machined shaft has the correct output length after mounting the adapter plate? It looks like OEM is about 2.25". I assume all of the dimensions were correct, because you bolted it together!

I did an eye ball measurement and then stabbed it in. I will be taking it back apart as I forgot to put the gasket between the tail housing and adapter. Not a big deal as with cab out of the way it’s a 20 minutes job.

So I have two columns that both work but are different. The original had bad u joints so I got another from Joe. Both have tilt but have different key cylinders. I got new key cylinders but they will only work with my original column so I dissected both columns and made one that used all the better components.

I think it’s odd that Toyota gives you three different keys cut the same. Why not use the same blank for all three or is there a reason?

Is one the "valet" cut?
I would have to try it in the glove box cylinder to confirm. I would assume that’s the one the valet key can’t open?

Typically the glovebox, rear hatch, or such - anything but the door and ignition.

The drivetrain is now for the first time sitting on its own with no help from stands. I finished up the cross member. I’m not super happy with it so it might change but good enough for now. No modification to stock crossmember.
Since I don’t have a stock 80 to look at anymore I can’t remember how the transfer case sits in relation to the frame. I have it sitting even with the bottom of frame. I put the factory skid plate on and it was a bout 1” below the TC.

I also did some winter prep by installing block heater. Much easier to do now with nothing in the way and no coolant. Tapped out a freeze plug and put it in. About a 5 minute job.

I bought a used 12V intake horn to replace the 24V one that came with the engine. Hopefully the 3/4” shorter 12V will let the hood close all the way. I also had to shave the bottom and cut off the triangle part to clear the vertical fuel lines and still may put in a spacer or double up on gaskets. I would like a bit more spacing over the lines just in case I get some rubbing with the diesel vibration.
I still have yet to find another Cummins with the vertical fuel lines. All I have seen have horizontal lines. And they are expensive even for a used set!

Looking great man! Nice work!

Looking great man! Nice work!
Thanks. Not getting any full days lately but the hour I have after work is nice for small things. I can get it done and still get credit for being inside the house when the wife comes home. :p

Anyone know if this is worth saving? I kinda would like to if the price is right. The metal is still good and salvageable but it would need new foam and fabric. I know I could make other seats work but this one already bolts in, folds forward and I dig the bench seat. I think I would want some tough canvas type fabric that can take a beating. My F350 has a bench seat and for a work truck it seems to suit me. Bags, tools, and such items are easy to throw in and scoot out of the way.

Does that seat have any fore/aft adjustment?

I recently saw a blue FJ45 where the guy put in an 80 series middle row. It looks like a bench seat, but also gives you an arm rest and the capability to flip one half up. Let me see if I can find it.

Yes it goes forward and back. I thought about the second row 80 seats as I have two sets that aren’t being used. That would also save money since I have the seat belts and covers for them also. I’ll have to measure and see if they would fit on the base of the bench seat.

Dave you got my hamster wheel turning. I threw them in just now to see how they look. I couldn’t jump in to sit because the cab is teetering on the back half of the frame at the moment.

Looks good to me :)

Do those have the reclining hinge? I think Mot was bringing those in from Japan at one point.
