In my opinion yes because the higher it is mounted the more AS you get which will translate into wheel hop. Wheel hop will bust your wrap bar or front heim (and within a second your d/s or pinion). I mounted the shackle on the back side of the cross member and pointed it down. It is slightly higher than Woody's in his pics.
As for being a rockfinder Mace it is above the hight of the bottom side of the frame rails.

thanks, i was clarifying what they meant by "mounting it lower".
i was thinking hte same as you flyinglow, my xmember is pretty high, i recon i could get it under the xmember and it'd be covered by my skidplate.

To prohibit antisquat, where would the ideal front mount be then, if rocks were not an issue? Have the bar mount at any height as long as its parallel with the leaves, or below the frame, or?
On mine (the one I broke), I mounted it as close to parallel with the drive shaft as I could get it. Also mounted it at the same height and nearly side by side with the tcase end of the driveshaft- but down the middle of the rig. I was worried about limiting articulation. I really should have read up on this subject alot more!

yes i second dustins enquiry, where would be ideal to mount it? if i could use it as a driveshaft skidplate id be happy, my driveshaft is hammered.

so basically, mount it below center of gravity to reduce antisquat, or more complex than that?

And the COG is typically an estimate. basically at the top BH bolt is about typical.
AS is not what you really want to design a trackbar for. You are much better off making it sit as low as possible and protect your DS.
The closer to horizontal you can make it the better. on a SO rig that is not realistic. So, you make it go where it will fit and not kill yourself on rocks..
Consider the track bars on the street chevies. they are very flat and very long..

agreed. the chain idea is bad... seems like the weakest setup so far.
i'm going to try to run to parallel bars on each side of the pumpkin with heim joints on both ends. its just an idea for now but i'll probably end up going with the trad. ladder style.

Just a single bar on each side???
It will help a bit but not eliminate wrap. With a single bar on the top (or two like you are thinkin) You are basicaly relying on the leaves to be the lower links. Now, the problem that you have in the first place is that the springs are bending and allowing wrap right? So your lower links will still flex.

My shackle hanges right in line with the skid plate. I plan in fabbing a plate a little farther out to protect it. My design is not perfect by any means and if I had to do it over I would make it closer to the cross member. But these days me hitting a rock with SOA is hard to find in my neck of the woods. I only had 1 day to fab this up before Tellico. I'm sure I'll cut it off and move it up as high as I can later. But it gives me a starting point.

has anyone mounted a shock on the wrap bar to dampen the wheel hop?
Bad,
Dont know but a good wrap bar will stop hop and not need a shock. I have the simply design on my rig much like Woodys. To check if you have spring wrap drive in reverse and jam on the brakes and see if your rear springs turn in "S's"

my brakes aren't good enough for that lowtideride
