Fixed all the wonky splices with solder and shrink tubing. Also got the harness all closed back up and extended the alternator wire to the passenger side. Tedious work... slow sledding. But need to get the cruiser back operational by 3/1 - little camping trip planned with my Land Rover buddy...

Next up - remove radiator so I can change out the fan shroud to the thinner one to fit the compressor. Mount compressor and see how the belts I bought fit. Hope they do, well beyond the return period doh!

BTW, I had two green/white wires in the harness - one was disconnected, the other went to the horn mounted to the radiator frame. Wondering if that needs to be hooked up to anything? Or maybe why the horn doesn't work? Of course, it was working before so probably not.

Made some progress... got narrower fan shroud installed - it clears the compressor with no mods! Relocated the battery tray towards the firewall and installed a new OEM tray. Also got the alternator and compressor (serious bling!) mounted. Belts routed. All is good! Nope. My crank pulley and water pump pulley are dual pulleys, however the outer pulley is narrower. So I think I need to source pulleys with equal size grooves to fit the belts. Ugh. @orangefj45 you have those available? Assuming I can’t run a narrower belt since the compressor is setup for the same size belt as my alternator belt.

Actually looks like a narrower belt would work - I measured the compressor and it is ~0.50” at the widest part. I couldn’t get a tape measure on the OEM outer pulley but it seems similar size. Will get a better measurement tomorrow.

Narrow belt should work fine

Fwiw, you can run a GM alternator pulley ( barrow groove ) on a Toyota alternator. Bolts right on.

Georg @ Valley Hybrids & Cruiser Brothers

Thanks Georg! I scored a belt 0.44” wide so will try that this afternoon.

Sweet the 0.44” belt fits perfectly on all pulleys! Woohoo! Unfortunately it is too long ugh. Just ordered three after measuring with a string and running it through an online belt length calculator. Hopefully one will fit... :bang:

Too long. :(

Looks great, I am wrapping up the compressor and alt bracket as I type this. Quick question in your battery relocation, did you feel the need to reinforce under the tray where it hangs off of the frame mount?

Thanks! More than 1/2 the battery and probably close to 3/4 is supported so I feel good about it. I did use four bolts to secure the tray in place.

All I can say is that this better be worth it. This is a pretty big project! No wonder I put it off for so long... Pulled the radiator (that was fun getting the bottom hose off), condenser mounted after cutting off horizontal radiator frame brace and some of the bottom baffle. I still need to cut a small section out of the baffle on the passenger side to route the hard lines. Calgon take me away...

Well of the three belts I ordered none fit... :bang:

Quick 1.5 hour round trip drive to the auto parts store that has the two remaining sizes I didn’t try... and success!!! 57” belt was the winner FYI.

Got some work done - front end is reassembled. So nice. Snug fit!

so we’re all your a/c parts from old air? you mentioned earlier that you might use vintage air under the hood. i like how your radiator set up sits. am looking to do something similar. i don’t have a lot of room around my rad to work and you’re seems to take little real estate

No definitely a mix of Vintage and Old Air. Vintage has a kit specifically for land cruisers including the crazy bracket that mounts the alternator and compressor. I didn’t like the Vintage AC unit, the Old Air looks like it belongs in the cruiser. Old Air was cool about that and helpful in making sure to get me the right things as the connections are basically the same.

Heater plumbing all in - I made the holes bigger in the firewall grommet and ran hose directly through. I had some fittings that I was going to use but came to the conclusion that fewer fittings would be better and reduce the chance for leaks. Plus the grommet is thick and I’m not sure if I’d have gotten enough bite on them with hose clamps.

Silicon elbow and reducers to go to the rear heater 1/2” hard lines. The unconnected part of the T fittings will run to the AC/heater unit.

The kit came with a similar closing mechanism but was plastic so I decided to make use of the OEM version. Just need to re-run the cable pull.
