i like the idea... still trying to figure out how you climb up in there ;)

Actually it is quite easy - there is a nice space to enter with the driver seat folded forward. I will have to shoot a video. I'll try to do it this weekend.

Oh and I decided to post this solution in the camping forum with a little more detail and links to some of the stuff I used: Suspended sleeping setup for a 40 series

So I got caught up in the whole Toyota key thing and inquired with a dealer I buy my Toyota stuff from. They didn’t have the door keys as they’re NLA but got me the ignition keys. To my surprise the guy said they’re on the house! I really only wanted two. Stoked! Will cut one for the 74 and two for the 75. Will keep one for who knows what... :)

In anticipation of installing the A/C in the near future, decided to change every bulb to LED. I’m just waiting on the LED compatible flasher from coolerman and then have the three lights in the cluster (two blinker and one hazard) to swap out. Figure everything to help reduce the electrical load will be beneficial with A/C.

Of course one of my rear markers decided to break apart (the inside contact came flying out) so I had to get the solder iron out to fix it - got it after a couple of tries understanding how it was originally assembled. And then of course my license plate lights stopped working so I installed a separate ground and all is good there too.

Installed my coolerman LED compatible turn signal flasher last night. Easy plug and play no cutting or splicing! But wow what a pain the mounting spot presented. Short stubby screwdriver and contortionist positions... but got it in and all works well! Well except for the rear lights - the one specified on superbrightleds bulb finder was incorrect - specified 1157 (dual contact on bottom) but it is 1156 (single contact point on bottom). So an exchange is going to happen there.

Also forgot I shot this little video of when I camped with my Land Rover friend:

Probably a little overkill since the cooler is inside the cab and it isn’t a super expensive Yeti (still $150 so would rather not have it walk). I fabbed up a bracket that I can lock up the cooler. It’s stainless steel 3/16” thick. I don’t have a lock obviously on the top part was just test fitting. The cooler sits perfectly on my ammo box. Some lashing straps holds it from moving from its perch.

Woohoo! Got all my lights swapped out to LED! Well except that little parking brake light. I think I will leave that one be.

Also took out the mystery noise filter (probably for old radio) and above it is the OEM flasher still looking very good!

And the Brinks security setup for my cooler lol.

Found a perfect spot for my speaker. It’s tight but clears the clutch by about a 1/4”. I used extreme double sided 3M tape to secure it to the “computer” box or whatever that thing is. Seems solid. Will be interesting to see how it holds up. Kick vent totally accessible. These are waterproof speakers too so any spray or water from shoes or whatever shouldn’t be an issue. If I have much moisture there I have some bigger issues.

And here is the driver side A/C louver location. I had forgotten the PO cut the dash pad - not sure what for but it exposed the metal so I will connect it there. I have it held up with the same tape may very well work vs screwing into the dash.

Starting to pullout some of the heating system to make room for the A/C unit... still don’t have all the parts but definitely don’t need the heater at this point.

Does anyone know what this hook is for? Passenger side above the kick vent.

. Yes, I probably could have filled an entire suitcase with parts I need for my 40! Hope you are having fun in Hawaii, are you here for work or family vacation? Should be a little rain off and on the next couple days, but weekend is looking sunny!

Family vacation - we are keeping an eye on my daughter and six of her girlfriends who just graduated from high school.

It has been nice and relaxing we don’t have anything major planned.

Would’ve been interesting going through security with those parts... no I’m not a terrorist and these are not bomb making parts.

Great looking 40!

Got the rest of the A/C stuff! Will start install hopefully soon! Still holding out hope for a heater delete plate like pictured below but not getting my hopes up. Can easily fab a plate but thought OEM would be cool.

Wanted - Heater delete plate

Slowly moving on the AC install. Been really busy with a graduating high school child and college orientation!

Removed heater fan, duct, and switches.

Been looking for an OEM heater delete plate and was able to track one down. Unfortunately $150!!! If this was a serious restoration I’d consider it. But since it is going to be cut/drilled I don’t think that is money well spent. But I’m thinking I can recreate it pretty closely by machining some Delrin.

Easy to work with (woodworking tools), good dimensional stability, high heat resistance, and that piece cost $12.91.

And I decided to get the AC hose clamping tools. Between my two cruisers and friends, it will pay for itself in no time.
