Started installing some of the hardware for the AC. Installed the Vintage Air bracket after a few coats of paint. Removed the alternator and relocated it to its new home. Worked well that bracket is crazy with all the bends. Will need to move the battery some to accommodate the plugs.

Went to install the compressor and ran into a problem. The fan shroud is in the way... :(. I read on the Vintage Air instructions that the shroud will need to be modified. But I’m thinking that a single groove pulley would be shorter? I only need about 1/4” for it to clear. Anyone have a Sanden style compressor and can measure the distance as identified below? Thanks!

Well I paid a ton less than you but am in more than you now lol

Have not had much motivation on the cruiser lately. I think the scope of the AC project is a bit daunting so I’ve been moving slowly. Worked a couple of hours today to remove the battery tray (PO removed the welded in nuts that held down the tray so getting to the nuts was not easy). Also had to drill out a sheared off bolt as I’ll need that hole to move the battery tray. Tray has seen better days.

What is that little hook at the upper corner of the battery tray? It’s bolted to the tray mount.

And unbolted the bib - couple of tough bolts to get to with my winch switch blocking them.

Figured out where to move the charcoal filter to - just need some additional strapping to make it work. Basically it will go where the heater blower was just mounted on the fender vs firewall.

That’s it. Probably won’t touch it again for a bit. Have some other projects to work on...

Still stalled out on my AC install, work is nucking futs. So haven’t driven the cruiser in months...:(

Had to do something so scored this little upgrade. Must keep away from any normal outlets in case someone gets tempted to plug it in. Doubt they would see the 12V only tag. Superbright claims 325 lumens. That seems crazy bright!

I feel bad I haven’t been following along. My Sanden compressor has a single pulley. Like you showed in the third image. And we didn’t have to modify my shroud. That double pulley you’ve got is a problem.

Doing some things except of course the critical AC project that has rendered my cruiser useless. But this is an exciting project I’m helping with - testing out the prototype 74 weatherstrip!!! Awesome job again by @Racer65!!!

Installed some additional seals/packing from my stock of @Racer65 goodies. Door seal is crazy tight now, excited to try a water test on it. Seems pretty well sealed up!

And like the drivers side door I spent 3+ hours removing multiple layers of weatherstrip adhesive from the passenger side door... gotta love the brown stuff wow what a pain. Whatever the PO used for the black adhesive was nasty too. Yay. But now it’s ready for the test 74 weatherstrip so that is at least exciting.

Well been out of touch for a bit - busy with the holidays and then traveled to Hong Kong and Singapore and since I returned work has been crazy. But finally have had a chance to start some work on the cruiser! And yes, the AC project!

Got the heater out! Big milestone for me!

Wow my wiring job was pretty crappy and can’t hide it now behind the big vent lol.

Backsides of the old and new units. And my cardboard template - will use Delrin to fab it up. Easy to work with - we’ll see how it will works. Unfortunately will have to take of the shifter to fit this in. So many little details...

Relocating the alternator... lovely PO splice. Some “factory” looking splices too... I’ll post those in the next post to see verification.

@Coolerman are these factory splices? The large one with the blue stripe is for the alternator. It was under tape and has an extra layer of plastic/rubber tube around it. Just outside the firewall. Seems like a lot of effort to splice after the fact.

Harness tape carnage... some non-OEM stuff too for the bad splices. Now I just need to find where I put the tape from coolerman (and the correct wire I bought from him too - danger of sitting so long on a project - forget where you put stuff ugh).

No idea sorry! I'm a private seller.

You can always drive it down there. I did drive from Houston to Calgary many years ago. Took just over 2 days with daylight driving only.

Be aware you can buy those splice fittings so as a rule it is the way that they are wrapped that tells you if they are factory rather than the splice itself. I literally have 1000's of them on rolls we use on the looms we build . The other thing they do tell you that that if it isn't factory then at least it was done by someone with correct tooling and terminals . I would expect anything that has had QC such as a factory loom to have a closer insulation coverage to the splice than that but many have been pulled and had a pretty hard life.

You see how it has small tabs on either end that means it came from a roll, if you look close you can usually see if it was flush cut or tapered cut and you can tell if it was machine crimped or hand. Most of the Japanese stuff is roll fed machine crimped.
