I hate to admit it but a snorkel does make a significant difference at highway speeds when compared to heat soaked fender temps.

Question for anyone who might know. Will IAT's be that much different post turbo, comparing dorkel and stock? Also, does it matter? I do not want to install one if I can avoid it.

I know @NLXTACY had around 70*-80* higher than ambient with stock intake, pre-compressed air, running the SC? Then just a few * above after snorkel install.

Yup, snorkel makes a massive difference. I’m torn on adding one to the test mule.

Dammit

Maybe we need a Wits End mini snorkel, scoop, or NACA duct intake on the fender or hood with a vacuum solenoid operated flap so it only opens at 3/4 throttle. The flap would work like the one in a shaker hood on 1970-72 Trans Am.
:)

You ever thought about designing a cool-looking metal snorkel like what the Aussie guys use?

Talked with the hydrographics shop today. Turned out the owner is a friend from 20 years ago and we just lost touch. Shipping my valve cover in the morning. Local to me so turn around should be quick.

It is a black Carbon Fiber film, black and clear and he puts the base coat candy red underneath it. He came up with that color combination on a Hellcat.

It’s a silver basecoat with the candy red so it changes in the sun from like orange to deep red when there’s no sun. Should be really interesting.

Nice: could you post up details on how your friend prepped the valve cover (?removing contaminants/oxidation) before adding the graphics?

sandblast, hit it with three coats of ppg primer, and basecoat, then Hydro dip then four hits of ppg Clear

I’ve already acid dipped and was going to chemfilm it but skipping that step.

What boost, EGT, & AFR gauges do you plan to run on this setup? I know they will be gold plated and all... but what’s your setup going to be?

Zinc :flipoff2:

And I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet. Still working on where I'm going to mount then I'll decide on the gauge.

Admittedly I haven’t read this thread to much extent. What’s the consensus on engine prep prior to adding a turbo? Should the HG be changed and head refreshed? Or if it’s an otherwise great running well maintained truck just install and go about life?

(Assume I’ve already zinc plated everything )

Yes to both.

If you have good compression numbers with no huge variance between cylinders and no oil leaks or heating issues, you are likely fine.

Looks like you're gonna need some even higher quality lighting under that hood!

Higher than BajaDesigns? :hmm:

I mean I’m not discounting the amount of reflected light from all the zinc plating giving everything a beautiful sunrise glow.

Was thinking showroom parallel lighting at around 4500K for the photos. Not sure if BajaDesigns is portrait quality light.
