Its been almost 2 years since my install. Dug out the pics. Here's what it should look like.

Yes I took my downpipe off so its easier to install. the blanket tight. Getting it back on is not fun. Vbands should so directly onto the pipe. There's no other way.

From my conversation with @OutlawMike, there should be no issue with putting the clamp over the blanket (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
Sorry, I did not answer that question clearly. The clamp is under the blanket, and as another user said, that clamp was one of the hardest parts to the install. Mine "wanted" to be higher up than the opening in the downpipe blanket. If you clamp the blanket to the downpipe, I expect it would burn up at the point it is clamped. The clamping force would increase thermal conductivity to the blanket..

No problem, i’m grateful to have this forum to answer my questions, which is a free resource :)

Gents,

I need help in figuring out what's going on here with the PCV system.

I got home from my second trip to UT in four weeks and didn't clean up the engine bay. The valve cover gasket is new, as well as all spark plugs tube washers. PCV Valve is working fine and the valve grommet is also new.

Why is oil or fumes escaping out of the oil filler cap hole? Please notice the amount of oil in the two air oil separators, which were emptied four weeks ago. The valve cover was spanky clean four weeks ago 😡

The dizzy O ring is also new.

I don't think the turbo is pressurizing the system. I am tracking down P0171, system too lean code by chasing down pirate air entering the intake.

I cant remember if the TEQ oil caps have a washer or not. I think they do like the original ones. If you haven't changed the rubber Oring under that oil cap, then that might be your problem. Yes there's a giant oring under it that is a replaceable item you can buy from the dealer.

no WAY!!!!

edit: I just checked, missing O ring. Let me go find the p/n for the O ring/gasket.

Oil cap needs a new gasket or a new cap.

Only other thought is how are your compression numbers looking? Are you getting excessive blow by?

Gosh, I haven't checked my comp #s in some time but those two half full catchers are sure pointing to a large blow by....:bang:

Today, I was able to remove the air filter, wastegate, and downpipe. Then I drilled the 7/16” hole in the mounting bracket.

Tomorrow I’ll remove the downpipe blanket, install the clamp, then re-tighten the blanket. After that, should be back to the install.

That slit in the downpipe blanket between the wire studs makes a lot more sense as the gap for the clamp than an aesthetic feature…..duhh 🤦🏼‍♂️

Ooooh, is that a wide band O2 sensor?

Doh! Yeah. To be fair I did do a video about it 🤔

the sad/funny part is that i watched the downpipe blanket video to understand install and went like step-by-step.

I found it really helpful, but somehow completely missed seeing the clamp 🤷🏼‍♂️

oh well, engine didn’t blow up so I consider this a minor inconvenience. Also, I trimmed some of the rubber air intake fittings to make it fit more direct and flatter, so I’ll call that an improvement.

After removing the downpipe and wastegate, then realigning and tightening (with the clamp still loose) I see why I was leakin at the turbo-downpipe junction.

My mistake of not attaching the clamp gave the exhaust shop goon “wiggle room” to attach the flange to cat. At rest, there’s a 1” gap and it does not align when pushed up to the downpipe.

why do something once when you can do it twice 😣

Haha yep, take it back to the exhaust shop now that everything is tight and where it is supposed to be and have them redo the v-band flange.

Troubleshooting help: Turbo has been running smooth, always hitting 7 lbs exactly. Had a great trip down to San Rafael Swell back in late April and it was stellar. The other day I took the cruiser out of storage to pet and give her some lovin. You know, wash, wax and stare at her beauty for a bit, I do always have to take a 2nd, possibly 3rd turn around look whenever I park at the store 😎. Boost would not go past 6lbs. Next, I pinched off the waste gate hose and took her for a quick cruise to see if she was losing boost. Sure enough, boost would go up to 4-5.5lbs and quickly drop, then build, then drop. Hoses are all perfectly tight. There are no leaks. I'm extremely OCD on these things to the point my family thinks I need counseling. There is no dust in my engine bay...:shame: Anyhow, you get the point..
My analysis is this......either the waste gate spring is softening or possible waste gate has a minor issue stuck open a bit? Anyhow, Joey said to post here and he would be along shortly. Any input or brainstorming would be appreciated.

My next idea would be to insert a dial in the waste gate hose to tune the pressure exact. However, this would not serve the purpose of fixing the issue unless its just a soft spring.
