so any word on if Toyota has run out of replacement tanks?

legally they are not allowed to run out of tanks untill 100% of all affected vehicles have been properly repaired and proof can be shown of all affected vehicles being repaired.

does that go for the seatbelt recall also??

UPDATE: As the same thing happened in my case. Truck is back in my possession. Service manager called me this afternoon telling me the parts were ordered but will take 1 to 1.5 weeks to get as they are scattered all over the U.S.

That is crazy! I had this done a couple months ago and it took like 4 or 5 days for them to get the tank in.

Took almost two weeks to get all the parts in for my recall to be done this Summer...it is like 22 individual parts needed to complete the recall for the tank.

Stay on them...

So I am on the phone about the tank recall for 2 of my 60's, I have the titles right here in my hands

seems neither one pulls up in their computer, so either they have not kept up with this very well or BOTH titles have wrongly recorded VINs...:whoops:

I am being told because they are soooooo old (the girl is 24 y/o) she has to look in another data base... lots of hold time....decent jazzy music though;p

edit: she had to look in a paper file....

so my 87 seatbelt and gas tank was done, they cannot find the VIN for my 81, now maybe the title on this one is wrong, anyone doing this really needs to make sure their title is correct and do not call Toyota of America, they won't help (or at least could not help me-all they could do is tell me there were recalls, of which I already knew,

you need to call your local dealer and ask for their 'warrenty administrator', the lady I spoke with was very helpful, I am sure because of liability issues but also because the economy is down, sales are down, and this is almost like free money to be able to charge the manufacturer.... I think I said this before but if not, toyepc.com lists the tank alone right around $1000.00 I know those prices are inflated, but it could easily be $600 or so

keep after the person you talk to, there was a lot of waiting time and noise in the background as they searched for either one of my VINs

SPARKS TRD in Myrtle Beach researched mine for me and then I already was informed when I went to local dealer to get it ordered....I even gave them copy of the recall and all the parts needed. :)

I guess they are having a hard time with VINs that were created before computers were prevelant....um 29 y/o car, I was a freshman in high school, I took a typing class on a typewriter

They found my 1984 quickly...think it is more on the operator than the system they are using. I took typing in highschool and at my first military base we got a computer....an old Zenith Z100 computer with 10mb removable hard drive and 256k of RAM with a green monochrome monitor...the whole thing was encased in lead lined box with a copper screen over monitor for TEMPEST concerns as it was for classified data..... WOW!

UPDATE:

Taking the truck in for this recall was a BAD idea.

I'm going to get billed out the @ss for rusted parts. Got a call yesterday afternoon saying they couldnt get the spare tire off due to rust....

Then the service manager goes on and tells me "i JUST want to let you know that if there are other are parts along the way that are rusted we will have to replace them if we cant re-use them such as bolts, etc.."

FML.

Once again, tell them that it's mandatory to do it as part of the recall and the recall is free of charge to you. Tell them they have to charge Toyota of America.

The only parts I can think of that could possibly need replacement, other than the bolts, are the tank straps and the spare tire crossmember. You could probably opt out of their replacment crossmember, pick one up used and do it yourself later. Before I took mine in, I lowered the spare tire, put it aside and removed a bad tank strap. I had a used strap in hand from SOR when I took it in to the dealer. They called me up later in the day to say that I'd be charged for cutting off and replacement of a couple of the bolts that secured the crossmember. When I picked it up, however, they had apparently changed their mind as there was no charge.

It is a recall....they dont charge you for anything as it is a Toyota issue that caused them the work not anything you did. If they were on their game you would have been notified 20 years ago that a federal recall was issued so they could have done it when they were not rusted... Right?

this all brings back memories. I took typing in HS also, anyone remember the Commadore 64???
that was high tech back in the day.

I wonder if the seatbelt recall, is good on my early 62 series as I have lap belts only in the rear?

Just called again.

Now theyre telling me some "valve" that goes in/on the tank (didnt understand him to well) has to be replaced as they cant get the old one out to use....

WTF!?

Does have a parts list for this recall ?

that is all I have in rear as well...lap belts. It is for the retractor that pulls the seatbelt down between seat and backrest which is located on floorboard.

They reuse the fuel pick up unit, and the sender. Im guessing that the pick up unit is what he is talking about. If the tank was rusted that bad on the inside you will need a new pick up unit.
In my case, I had to find a used pick up unit, fuel sender, and straps, but thats because I had an aftermarket tank in so none of that was there to re use. If you end up having to replace it, I was able to find people on mud to donate these to me for free, you should try to do the same.
HOWEVER,
GLTHFJ60 is right... They should order anything that is necessary and bill it to Toyota of America. Especially based on the potential danger of this recall. They have no room to jerk you around when it is a safety issue (the remarks on the recall state that leaking fuel could possibly ignite, seems unlikely but it must have happened to some somewhere). You might have to fight with them a bit and it will take longer if they have to order more parts but it will save you from paying for anything or having to find the parts yourself. Put your game face on and go in to the dealership and set them straight, they are a lot less likely to cooperate over the phone. Try to imagine that the service advisor stole your kids bike or kicked your dog:mad:
