So I’m having an issue with my windshield wipers. They operate well, but don’t settle in the correct position when I turn them off. They sit up about 4 inches. I tried pulling them off and adjusting manually, but when I lower them they don’t travel on the windshield correctly. They move below the windshield onto the hood and vice versa. Anyone run into this? I think I’ll pull the motor off and see if the splines are lined up incorrectly, but that doesn’t seem to make sense either.

Try this. Pull the wiper arms from the shafts, turn on the wipers and let the motor run through a few cycles, then turn off motor. Now reinstall wiper arms where you want them and make sure they're snugged down on the shafts.

This originates at the motor to the main shaft, not at where the wipers connect.

You need to pull the wiper motor, and readjust the linkage there.

When I replaced my wiper motor, I have this same issue, but am too lazy to pull the motor and readjust. I flip my switch to get them to set at the bottom of the windshield, but they are set so they stay on the glass.

I appreciate that Kernal. I haven’t even looked at the motor yet, so this is really helpful.

It happened to me when I had to replace the motor in a downpour outside the local Toyota dealer. It still sits dangerously close to the weatherstripping when at rest, but I was not particularly patient at the time. Can Google how to replace wiper motor and likely go from there. Best of luck.

Mine started doing that but it was random when they would not park correctly. After trying to mess with adjustments it turns out it was the switch that was failing. Replaced and no problems since.
What switch exactly?

There's only one - on the steering column.

Amazing that this thread popped up.

A while back my parked PS wiper was lifted by 'a sponge' while going thru a car wash. The lifting action moved it up about 3 inches. Ever since, both wipers have parked to where 'the sponge' lifted just one wiper upon that event. Haven't tried to 'restore' their park position; regardless the nuisance.

This thread gives me hope. lol

Just a follow-on to my own post ... I've since refurb'd my wiper arms and found the PS wiper was loose and the car wash sponge caused it to jump a spline on the pinion. Repositioning the arm on the pinion after refurb solved the issue.
In short, an issue not related to this post.
Please ignore and carry on.
