Wilma stopped by today for a visit and MAN what a babe! Surprisingly easy to drive and the suspension is smooth. LVs are the :cool:est. Nice work Jason...motivating me to get back in the garage.

thanks Randy what a fun drive drove the old girl 7 hours round trip today. 2 of that was stop and go traffic but I was impressed with how she preformed. it ws the longest trip by about 6 hours and ws really the last mental hurdle in her evolution as my daily driver/ full time truck.:)

the looks I got on the road were priceless what a fun rainy day drive :)

plans I have so many plans. . . actually we were looking at what to do about the front fenders. in that mine are really mint. one option would be to wrap a bar tight to the fender line and tie it into the front frame. but I am not excited about distorting the body lines esp. the front end. the other option would be to save my fenders and fabricate some stock looking tube fenders. like the metal tech ones but those are opened up more than I would want so it would require a pair of one off's.

that all seaid I think that is a project for down the road. my main ojectives now are to get the rear fj62 axle stripped down, cleaned up and swapped under the rear. sounds easy but it is time consumming. then swap the h55 in which will be a big project too in that I want to fab in the stock tranny crossmember from a later modle fj40 ( the lv did not come with a ctross member in that the tranny hung off the back of the engine. then build a skid plate for the tranny.. then....

lockers. not nolockers. . yet. I have plans for cable lockers at some point.

jason,

h55's take some floor fab just so you know. I think that there are some pics on my Lv thread...

yeah I figure the tranny hump will need some work but I have an 87' split case which came with the spacer so it is actually the same length as the h55 so lenght wise everything is all set I have already reworked hte tranny hump for that. my only concern is if I worked in enough height or not for the oil cooler thingy on the top of the h55. i did work into my hump the fj60shifter lever inspection plate so my hump is 2 peices and my hope is I can add to the height of that inspection plate with a few strips of metal or something.
but will look at your thread and see what you did thanks
thanks 45hopin

ok all you picture nazi's I now have a real digital camera. my dad let me use his old Canon D-60 for a digital photography class I am taking so now I will a have a camdra to take decent shots and b learn how to take decent shots. just in time for me to finish my build .. ha.
so while I built the guage cluster in the first 2 pics looks like I am going to sell it now. any takers. will be selling hte gauges as well. it has nice autometer guages every thing works and the instrument lights work as well. mechanical oil pressure guage. a lare tach up to 10,000 rpms. and a water temp gauge.
I am getting rid of that set up because i got a kewl cluster from
Kickass Stuff For Your 40-Series
you willsee my pics. and I plan to run a vdo tach in the hj47 tach housing. should look really claen and factory

Of the cluster?? no before pictures it looked just like any other gauge cluster though, worn around hte edges and scratched. I did not want to spend $12 a can for the proper OEM metalic grey so I decided to go a shade or too darker with rustelium metalic charcoal. sparayed 4 light coats 10 minutes apart and got a nice depth to it. the darker will look nice on my bright Dash.

my only concern is if I worked in enough height or not for the oil cooler thingy on the top of the h55.
Jason

What oil cooler thingy are you talking about? I didn't notice anything different on top of the H55 in my BJ60. The only difference is 3" of length.

I believe that 5th gear in the h55 is lubricated by an oil line that is part of the top housing that the stick shift goes into.. thus the over all height of the h55 is higher then the h41. see "82cruiser" 's troopy build thread he took some great pics of how he modified and raised up his tranny hump in order to fit the added height of the h55

That extra height is just to allow the external 5th gear lever to operate and move the overdrive onto the cog. The H41/42 is all internal, where the H55 has the little lever you can see from outside the tranny. The 5th gear is lubricated by a small plastic widget which clips into the front of the split transfer case.

You will need about 1" extra to house the top loader of the H55.

Cheers,

Josh

I've seen the external shifter on the H55 but never an "oil cooler". It would be most unusual on a stick anyways.

No, there is no oil cooler- at least on the factory set up. The 'only' thing that extra height on the top loader is used for is the external mechanism which engages the overdrive; not for cooling oil.

You may have a hose which connects the transmission to the transfer case, but this is a safety backup in case the seal between the gear box and the tranny fails. If your H55 is used and is from Australia, then it will likely have that hose.

If that seal fails, the transfer case can push all of its oil into the gear box and run dry. This tube allows the oil from the gearbox to flow into the tansfer case when the oil gets higher than it should be. It is not a cooler either.

Cheers,

Josh

just saw this sorry.
I will take some pics in the next couple of days on how it all looks now. I mounted the tach to the left of the guage cluster. its a small tac I am ok with how it looks I wish it looked better but it is nice to have and now all my guages are in one place and operate nicely.
