How is bedliner hard to clean?

bedliner is very rough it catches and holds dirt and dust. Take a handful of fine sand and throw it into the back of a pick up bed that is rhino lined and now tell me how easy it is to wipe clean.

The vacuum cleaner was invented in 1868. I've heard that they actually "suck stuff up". I've GOT to catch up on my back issues of Popular Mechanics.

Sarcasm rules.

yeah ok, now spill something wet with any consistancy thicker than beer. Vinyl man, vinyl. any way you slice it, bed liner is inferior. Harder to clean, no sound dampening, no heat shielding properties. = bad idea. Hey what do I know? its your rig, if you dont like it you can always put carpet back over it.

ASTRO TURFF!

Bill Clinton had it in the back of his El Camino whilst trolling for virgins in Arkansas. What better recomendation can there be?:grinpimp:

chukardog, thats when I would use a hose. It would be pretty easy to clean. I decided not to do it anyway.

I have a spray in liner in my '76 Early Bronco. Its easy as pie to clean. If you do the do-it-yourself kits from the auto parts stores, a lot of them are very gritty and would probably shred a towel if you tried to wipe it. The professional ones are typically smoother. Some of the newer do-it-yourself kits are better, and can even be sprayed in with an air compressor and hopper. It is a little louder, but haven't noticed any difference in heat.

Here's what I did:

Bedliner with plywood sides, also bedliner'd:

i knew a girl with a first gen 4 runner who bedlined the whole inside of the truck. It looked great, was easy to wash out, but maybe a little bit louder. I never noticed any excess heat coming from the floor.

i say go for it. If my carpet was ugly or torn up i would do it no question.

My father works for Line-X of Huntsville, Al and I have seen many Jeeps and FJ 40's sprayed. I will not hesitate to spray the floor of my FJ 60, when the carpet goes. Line-X is able to match any color using Dupont paints if you want. I'm sure they could match both the grey and brown interior without a problem.

I am sourcing products for this floor system in my 80...

1. Epoxy primer
2. 8-10mm (3/8-1/2") Medium Density closed cell neoprene foam sheeting c/w urethane glue/caulk for adhesion and joist sealing
3. 1/8" natural rubber Durometer 60-70 non-slip or ribbed sheeting top coat

Anyone done something similiar? This is more of an industrial floor system but hey I'm an engineer! The closed cell neoprene should work good as its durable, oil and chemical resistant and won't absorb water.

The Urethane or polyurethane caulking is durable and flexible enough to seal any joints - also comes in black!

Rubber of course has great abrasion and tear resistance.

Neoprene is closed cell foam, which is flexible and durable. Yet it cushions the material and is static free.
* Resistance To: Acid, Alkali, Gasoline & Oil, Oxidation, and Ozone
* Poor Resistance To: Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Ketones, and Chlorinated Solvents.

Common Uses: thermal insulation, gaskets, pressure

sensitive mounting tape, water resistant clothing, heat insulating clothing, prosthetic devices, grounding, joint filler for road construction, and EKG pads

Neoprene is a soft, flexible closed cell polyethylene foam. It is a sponge rubber filling and is durable. Also it has good thermal & moisture insulation, form fitting and water, ozone, sunlight, oxidationa, and chemicals are resistant to this type of foam.

I completely covered the interior of my 75 FJ40 about three years ago with Duraback. I wanted to be able to hose out my tub with a garden hose, something that would seal out completely any air or mositure to the metal. There used to be a tech link on mud. I couldn't find it so I attached the URL above.
This stuff requires good prep, If you don't your wasting your time and money, but is well worth the trouble. It stays plyable and comes in several colors, I had a paint shop tint mine to match the dune beige color I had.

Bed liner in interior

Really had not posted as I thought the orginal intent was to see 60's that had compleated the lining of the interior. I know from my lurking there are several thread's covering this some with great pictures. I am slowly rebuilding my 60 and plan to put bed liner from the windows down in black, and gray from the windows up. Then cover with the SOR diamond rubber type carpet. Don't know about heat and or noise and really dont care about noise. Should have pic's of the install in a few weeks but scheduling work on the rig is difficult for me. Any who will eventually put up some pic of the interior. I will say the types of liner that my painter mechanic is wanting to use all require extensive prep, like all the paint gone and that is what is taking so long at this step. Should have just pulled the body and had it bead blasted would have been so much quicker. Grinding and sanding on the roof area is a pain you cant imagine. Anywho my .02

Mudzilla - i like your idea. How many sq feet do you figure you will need to do this? how thick are you going to go?

Sorry for the hijack in advance but there maybe others out there with the same questons. or the question was asked and no one answered it like question #3.

1. I would think that if one added any layer/barrier of any product it would have to have some sound deadening properties as well as a barrier against heat. Correct?

So I would think that a 1/4" of Durabak or any other spray/roll on bed liner whould do a fairly good job against both.

2. Once bedliner is applied could you reinstall the OME carpeting over it?

3. Can you install sound deadening material and spray liner over it?

4. Has anyone sprayed the interior of their doors?

Thanks much and pics would be great too.
