Which tail lights are in your stock bumper-not a trick question

I'm getting finished on my American Autowire harness install. Lots left to do but I can see the end in sight. The rig runs, has headlights, heater fan, guage lights, and turn signals so far working. Good stuff.

But I'm still in need of tail lights. I've replaced the factory turn signal switch and hazard switch with a unit that will mount to the steering column.

The factory lights were full of rust holes so they've got to go anyway.

I would have liked to mount the standard 4" round LED in the back of the body however there is already a big hole for the gas filler there. It in itself could use some work as the PO never actually got the flange around the filler tube to meet up with the body. It hangs in there a bit. It seems like to be able to get in there and mess with the tube I'd have to drop the tank.

So moving the filler tube like I'd like to do would certainly delay getting stuff back on the road.

I've searched and read the FAQ like Everyone Always Does. Lots of the pics were in threads from '05 so the pics are noexistant.

Is there a LED or other taillight that works with the american style of tail lights AND fits into the stock bumper holes? Looks like the holes are close to 9" wide and the couple LED lights that I've found that actually list the dimensions are closer to 6" wide.

Get stock tail lights and convert to led bulbs. My 40 is converted to led bulbs all the way around inside and out. Get the bulbs from: Super Bright LEDs - LED Products and Accessories You will have to get a led flasher and you can buy it at the same time as your bulbs or try local auto part store. Great mod and discussed many times on mud. Switch all factory bulbs out of the 40. Greatly reduces draw on electrical system. They carry bulbs for every socket on the criuser.

I didn't think that it was. I was under the impression that the Autowire harness with another system of turnsignals and hazard switch was incompatable with the OEM tail lights.

The painless kit is for GM type applications that use the same lamp filament for stop and turn signals in the back. Only the power input connections are compatible. Either you reuse your existing wire after the hazards, make a new harness or convert the stop lights and turn signals to early cruiser / GM type with the single filament.
?

Here's where I got it from. Pin_head's message from last year.

So I'm looking for lamps that work with the single filament that people have used in the stock location.....

Ya'll had me thinking I was an idiot for a second.

Back to the previous discussion of what other lights will fit in the stock bumper holes.

Here's three that I've found that are bigger than the standard 6.5" oval LED light.

One is a surface mount, one is a flange mount and one has 10 LEDs, is more money and is a grommet mount. I imagine that since these will be going into a larger hole that the third one is out.

Maybe the surface mount is out also? I'm not sure how that is designed to attach and can't find any documentation about it.
