I was just wondering what the most efficient engine would be for my 64? It has an original "F" in it which runs very smooth but drinks gas FAST! Any tips on how to make her better on the gas? Engine/modifications!

You know that may be the problem right now. It does not have the original exhaust manifold or carb set up. I have to look at it again to see what carb is on there. I know it has a Man-O-Free adapter plate from the carb to the intake manifold. All in all it starts right up and runs well but it definitely needs some adjusting. Probably gets 6-10 miles per gallon.

On another note, does anyone have a good electrical diagram for a 64? When I brake the front right turn signal lights up and when I put on the right turn signal the horn blows. I didnt even know the horn worked until I put the turn signal on.

2f

I would say a 2f with FI also but also for ease of swap I think a modern 350 sbc gets better mileage than a standard 2f with carb

Pre - 72 diagram......Might help

Theres a thread on here where a guy put a motorcraft 2 barrel on his 305 SBC and was getting about 20mpg. Maybe the same carb on yours will boost it to a whopping 12mpg???

Glad to hear you still have the '64!

There was a thread on here not that long ago about gas mileage, and if I am not mistaken, Idave, with his stock F135, had better mileage than most others on here had...sorry, not time right now to look it up...I'll try again later.

Yes, my 9/64 FJ45 anemic F135 engine gets 17 mpg with it's finely-tuned OEM SD40 single barrel carburetor.

Something's wrong with the OP's setup! :D

These symptoms are caused by "floating" grounds. The right rear lamp housing has a bad ground, so it finds a ground through the right front light. Probably the same issue with the right front turn signal and the horn. Clean the grounds for the RF lamp and the fender to frame ground and the problem will probably go away.

Tad, your Man-A-Fre adapter poses a question; is it to use a one barrel carb or two barrel carb? Some possibilities are:
(a) Your factory one barrel intake manifold could be wishing it had a good running factory one barrel carburetor on it (if there is such a thing).
(b) Your MAF adapter may be used to adapt a Rochester two barrel carb, and you simply need a rebuild. Do not use the Rochester carb that vents to the atmosphere (PM me if you don't know what I'm talking about).
(c) I doubt that your MAF adapter (or factory one barrel intake manifold) will let you install TBI fuel injection, atleast no adapter available that I know of??
