Where to buy ACTUAL Magnaflow 23120 cat? Not Bosal.

Who da f#%* got the last one just now!?

In all seriousness, what’s our next best option from here on out??

If you add the second Cat or the stainless magnaflow muffler, is there a source for non Bosal ones? I want to try and go over the frame on my 95. Started down this path because somebody in the past hacked out one of the Cats and and it will throw an P0420 code every once in a while. I am also going to have to take the resonator off when I install my Labs bumper. Will probably go headers back since the factory ones are pretty beat up and the heat shields have seen better days.

Can someone send these threads to Magnaflow? Not likely it would make any difference, but they should know people will pay a premium for the real product.

Yeah, doubt they care. Probably don't sell many of these a year to even justify still making them. At $275 I was fine with buying, over $350 and you get into cheaper at a local shop to make one. I know it's getting hard to find those kind of exhaust shops anymore though too.

Is there any options for the CARB compliant cats out there? The Magnaflow and Bosil options say not CARB compliant which means no-go for me here is Cali. The only CARB compliant one I'm finding is made by Eastern Catalytic. Has anyone had experience with this brand?

Yeah there's several. You can find all the CA approved aftermarket replacements here:

Thanks for the link. I went there but most on the list are generic "universal fit" cats. Only 2 show direct fit for the 80 series. One by Western Catalytic (which is the one I knew about) and the other direct fit is by Airtek. I will look into both and see which one gets the best reviews.

What year LC? I know that at least for my 96 it lists the direct fit y pipe with front cat and a direct fit rear cat. They're listed by the brand of Car Sound Exhaust Systems or something like that.

I have a 97. I did see other brands but they all said "universal fit". Only the 2 showed direct fit. I will have to look into the other brand as well.

I'm seeing direct fit options for all 3 brands; Airtek, Magnaflow and Eastern.

These are the direct fit CARB-approved options from Magnaflow:

O'Reilly's, Carquest, Napa, Advance Auto, and Auto zone do not have any in stock in the country. They all are factory direct and all factory direct are now Bosal. I "ordered" from each over the last week and made them bring them in for me to look at. They were all Bosal. I also ordered from 3 different amazon sellers who swore they matched the picture. Wrong......I just bought one from the guy on Ebay you posted. People like him will be the last to be found. I bought 2 of them.......

The second one I received from Advance Auto was the correct one. However it was ordered through Worldpac and came from a different warehouse, aka not from their retail sales supplier. It seems like they can get both but there's no way of telling until you open the box. On the good side if it's the incorrect one they can always order another and swap them out.

I finally got it put on today and all is good. I was hoping my cat whistle would go away but it's still there, anyone have luck getting rid of the whistle after replacing the second cat with a Magnaflow one??

I can't use Magnaflow or Bosal since neither are CARB compliant for Cali. I used a non CARB compliant Cat for my old 4Runner and failed the visual inspection even though I passed the actual emissions test. I had to cut it off and buy a carb compliant one. I wont make this mistake twice. There was no returning the first cat after I welded it on. I hacked it up to get it off.

Huh? The ones I linked are the CARB-compliant models. It's the part numbers I highlighted in the screenshot. Magnaflow sells both versions, CARB-compliant and non-CARB.

Thanks for those links. I can open them now. My internet would not load them earlier. Wow, those prices are crazy high for a CARB compliant cat. That's almost double the normal price. I am happy to go with Western Catalytic if someone can verify they actually fit well. The price isn't bad and is available from numerous vendors in the $235 range for the front and $150 range for the rear. I just don't want to spend the funds until I know fitment is good.

Even in the aftermarket part world CA finds a way to f#@k you. I bought just the front y pipe direct fit and bought a universal for the rear cat.

Pretty sure my whistle lived in my resonator before I got rid of it.

So I ordered one off of the ebay link and it showed up yesterday. It was drop shipped from Magnaflow and it arrived as a straight up Bosal. Had terrible welds, the cat was the different style and it didn't look like stainless. I called the customer Service and had to send photos to see how this goes. Stated that they just used the Cats due to a excess stock situation. Tech made it sound like they still have access to the original magnaflow parts and were just using up the Bosal surplus.
