As I mentioned on 1/22, one of the steps did not arrive with the others. Today it finally came in! Here are the pics...

Correct.

This set is now for sale in the Classified section.

What about the internal mounting hardware?

Looking through the different illustrations, I don't see any internal modifications. I suspect because these mount on the radius of the 1/4 panel that the panel is quite resistent to deformation. I would use fender washers on the inside though. I think the steel trim on the outside also helps to spread the load.

I have sold the first set already. Perhaps this is something that could turn into a group buy?

Hello again,
I have moved bases and we had to fire the interpreter who was helping me get the parts. I now have a canadian interpreter who wont try to get us killed.
Close to where I live there are some 100 series with these steps. I saw one where they were taken off and it looked like the roofrack nutsert type deals. I am supposed to get a couple days off soon. So they say. When ever that happens I am going to ask my UN buddies if I can do a little investigation. I will bring my camera and show you how they are put on. I will try to make a template for the 100 so at least those guys have an idea where to drill. I just saw a 60 with them on. I just wish I could find an 80 on base with them on. With my new mission I am not alowed to walk the streets like I used to. I also saw some sweet Iraqi Army land cruisers the other day, camo paint job and all.

here are the steps for the 100 series: ;)

Where to mount them is pretty straight forward. The feet on the handles are angled in such a way, that they will only sit flush in certain spots. I supposes there is a little bit of wiggle room, but not much. Many have inquired on here as to the strength of the sheet metal and its ability to hold a 200+ pound person. I would think the nutserts would handle less weight than using a fender washer on the back side. The ornament trim, while rather thin, will also help to spread out the load.

NEWSFLASH..............There is no backing ...the body has built in threads.....Just bolt on. no backing.

I just removed one off a UN 100 like in my very first picture. They are very solid steps. Now I have to assume all land cruisers have the threads in the body right........or is this something that they just started on the 100? I am willing to bet all of them have these threaded bolt holes already there. We just need to know where to drill through the skin. The UN guy I met today was cool. He has been driving UN cruisers for 14 years. He also told me there is a ladder that clamps on to the 3 steps for real easy access. Where do I find one of those?????
When I get a day off I will make a template of the 100 and try to take pictures. There really isnt much I can show you other than a hole. There is nothing to see inside. And these bad boys have armor. Who ever is making these armored ones are taking them off and filling the holes with allen head bolts

The more I think about it you should be able to find the threaded holes from the inside and stick something through to mark where to drill the holes. I would like to investigate this myself but my Land Cruiser is over 10k miles away. Could anybody do some exploratory surgery for me? I am sure there is a way to find the holes from the inside. I did notice that the "ornament" backing piece is a joke. I think it is to keep your shoes from scratching the paint or something. definatly not needed. I didn't like the way that looked anyway. Now if I can do some more research with the UN guys on the extra clip on ladder........ that would be a great find. Those land rover guys and their factory ladders racks wouldnt have squat on our superior Toyota setup.

Its killing me........ I wish I had an 80 to dig around in and find the threaded holes. I cant do any digging around here they all have armor inside and no access. Will somebody dig for me....?

So anyone install these yet, i ordered mine and i wanted to get ideas how to mount them so they will hold.

I gotta get me some of those.

FWIW, these steps aren't uncommon down here.... which lends credence to the idea that cruisers have factory holes.

easy way to drill 'em would be to use a 1/8" or so bit and drill from the inside-out, then use that hole to drill out the correct size.

So. whatever happened to maybe doing a grp buy for these?
Or, can I just go to Toyota and pick them up?

What's the latest with this? Are there threaded holes for mounting already in US spec 80s? These are awesome.

I was wanting a pair also "after" I find out what is needed to install on a 93 FJZ80
