Why is it that every time I find a thread that pertains to my situation, and I want to comment or respond to it, the thread has been "closed"???? That is just going to cause new threads to be started about things already discussed. Isnt the objective to condense the number of threads out there so that the information is more centralized? I dont get it.

Link? Wrong forum, btw...

I was wondering the same thing. I wanted to resurrect destin's FST thread from '09 but it was closed.

I'm guessing that it was getting too much chat, and not enough tech, so the fj25 forum mod closed it.

Here's the resto thread for that nice rig: https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/297786-destins-1964-fj40-fst-restore-thread.html

all of the threads are now getting closed if they havent been posted in for a certain amount of time. Which means someone will need to make updates in any thread they want kkept alive. Its kind of a shame.

Perhaps we need a better updated list of the build threads so people can go back to them. It was a blanket forum rule that was applied to all threads.

And a one of a kind resto. Destin has serious skills.

Well, why does it get closed in the first place?

Well, better get back to work on it!

1> This is the HELP forum...this is where I find these questions and answer them :) I check here 2nd after the Moderators area.

2> As noted in other threads here, ALL threads with no posts in 6 months were closed.

WHY?

Spammers. They were targeting them. Cleaning them up was getting old. Closing fixed that.

If you want your thread reopened, use the Report Thread button

and one of the mods will address it.

Woody beat me to it :D

So this begs the question ....

What action do you plan for those closed threads that no-one's asking to be reopened Woody?

Do you intend to eventually delete them completely on the presumption that there is no intertest in them?

PS. I love this site and I'd hate it to deteriorate. But I suspect others may think, as I do, that getting important threads reopened (for the continued benefit of all) should not be their responsibility.
What's classified as important is a subjective decision. So if it is now being left to random individuals to decide which threads ultimately survive, then I believe this site will soon become less attractive.

(I can certainly see the benefit for administrators in creating an automatic process for deleting "supposedly unvalued" threads. So this is why I'm asking.)

(And I'm fully aware, that as the owner, you can do anything you want to the site.)

Spam gets deleted. Closed threads will not be.

Closed threads are still searchable, so no information is lost. The only difference may be that someone ends up starting a new thread on a subject rather than dragging one up that is ancient.

Had I thot it through more, I'd have set it at 1 year instead of 6 months. Can't go back, so in 5-1/2 months it will appear to have been a year :) The script was run once. I'll decide in time if I will re-run it.

Thanks Woody.

Nice to to know that no mass-thread-deletions are planned :)
