What's the valve sequence on an F engine? (1 Viewer)

Hi. Trying to adjust my valves on a May 1973 F engine.

Got it at top dead center, but a couple of the lifters are up when they should be down. Which makes me wonder... Am I looking at the correct valves? For example, valve 7 is open when it should be closed. Maybe I've got them in the wrong order and it's not actually valve 7.

So does anybody know what order they should be in? I am assuming it goes in order from 1-12 starting at the front of the engine. Maybe I'm wrong.

You might not be on the compression stroke. Go another rotation of the flywheel and check your valves again.

And yes, they are 1-12 front to back.

Thank you! I believe it is the compression stroke because the dots on the timing gears are aligned. What do you make of this?

Where's the distributors rotor pointing? It should be pointing at the #1 plug wire. You could pull #1 spark plug, rotate the engine until air is forced out of the hole when the piston comes up and both vavles are closed for that cyldr. When you rotate the engine you can watch the valves as they function thru the 4 strokes. Idk about toyota 6 cyldrs engines, but on a lot of other engines when the marks are lined up puts the engine on TDC on the exhaust stroke. You need to confirm you're on the compression stroke.

IOW, valves 1 and 2 in the #1 cylinder, etc.

Yes. Note the arrow labeled "front" in the diagram.
