What should a good winch for the 80 be?

I was thinking on getting a Warn M8274, but not sure if it would fit the ARB bumper, and also if its really worth that bunch of cash.
thinking also on a 9.5XP or maybe a ZEON.

I need a reliable powerfull winch, since I mostly ride alone and when with company, other cars are too small to pull this big heavy truck out of any where.

Ill most likely be installing a Dual battery in near future, so this might help the winch as well!

Thanks for the help in advance!

thanks!
I have used XP before and loved it! Amazingly fast!

Just was probably not sure if it could handle at that weight of the 80.

Zeon 12K

I recently bought a 12K Zeon to mount in my ARB bumper. There are many reasons why I bought this winch but what I liked the most is that it is sealed to IP68, so it should stand up well in the elements.

It seems to fit, though it does require the spacer kit, and because it's vertically mounted in the ARB you have to turn the clutch end 90 degrees (easy to do, just remove the fasteners and rotate the housing).

There is a winch section here on 'Mud, look for your answer there as well.

FWIW, have a good friend with an M8274, and it fits with some modification to the ARB.

That being said, my 9.5xp works well and required no modding of the bumper. Pretty sure that the M8274 is faster, though.

If your on a budget here are two that have gotten great reviews. I am pretty sure they are both made in the same factory in China. I have the rough country one and have had it a few years now. If you call they will often give a 10% discount to any offroad club members. Have used it MANY times with zero issues. I ran it on my TJ Wrangler, my XJ, and my WJ, before I used it on my current FJ80. My buddy has a 4 door JK rubi with the HF one and has used it since the badlands line came out and has had zero issues with it. With a 20% off coupon you can pick that one up for under $300 as well. I have gotten a lot of hate from other off roaders saying their Warn was well worth the triple cost and mine would fail very soon. That has not happened yet and I use mine VERY regularly.

I got the Bad Lands 12k and connected it to my Antenna up/down switch. Used it once so far, worked great. Also used it to straighten out a cars front sub frame which was bent in from an accident. Came in really handy. $299 w/coupon, best deal there is.

Warn is manufactured in Oregon.

Not quite. I know my neighbor purchased a warn from 4wheelparts.com in the $600 range (their low cost line) for his chevy truck and he found a "made in china" sticker on one of the internal parts when he removed the housing to rotate the handle foward. He was a little pissed when he saw that. I don't remember the model number.

edit: I just got off the phone with him and now have the model he purchased. He did some research on his winch and found out some info. There are parts on his winch that are from China but the winch is designed, tested, and assembled here in the US up in Oregon. He never actually got any clear answers on which components are from over seas and which are american made. Here's the one he bought:

Yep, Actually VR series are all made in China. Design, quality control, specificaction by warn but manufactured in china to keep costs low for a low budget winch.
9.5XP and M8274 and other are still made in USA, and as most of things this days, some parts and/or components must come from China.
I wouldnt mind using a Chineese brand winch, but I would really feel more secure with something better, just cause as I said, im usually riding alone and might end up relying on a winch.

Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming!

I've been more than happy with my Superwinches :)

EP9.0 was $539.99 new shipped with an SW snatch block

Husky10 was only $300 bucks used, but needed a new steel cable

On something like the HF or Rough country, what is the weight savings of swapping out the wire cable and rollers for a synthetic setup?

Does anything need to change on the winch's roller itself?

What about a ZEON 10K? I just got an opportunity on that one as well and its about 40% less than a XP and 55% less than a M8274... price wise ofcourse...
Would it worth saving those $700-$1000? (Prices here in CR are waaay higher than USA BTW)
