Lookin to change the oil in my new 97 fzj80. Has 195k on it and I live in the mountains doesn't get too much drive time so I was thinking 30 w. That's what I ran in my 85. What do u guys think.

I use Rotella 15w-30

rotella-t.... run it in all my cars and equipment I buy it by the drum

If you search there areca few really good threads on oils that will help you understand which oils work best for the environment your truck runs in.

I personally run Amsoil 5W30 full synthetic. I change once per year or 20K which ever comes 1st. I also have Amsoil dual filtration system as well. Likr mryanangel said, do a search and read a bunch on thread..

I run Rotella T6 in everything I own but had to change to Rotella T in the 80. The synthetic enhanced my leaks.

20w50 high mileage conventional

Rotella 15w40 here. Helped with consumption from bad valve stem seals.

Rotella 5w-40 all day ery day

This was the case for me too. I switched to Mobil 10W-40 Hi Mileage when I bought the rig and a little while later my pan arch started leaking. Could have been a coincidence. Regardless, I switched to Rotella T 15w40 and the engine seems to really like it. The oil leak slowed down considerably.

I've run blackstone analysis on both oils and get similar wear results. These engines don't need the expensive stuff, but that's only an opinion so people should run what they like. I just got sick of topping off with expensive oil when good old conventional worked just as well if not better.

Oh yeah, I live in Cali and the truck never really sees anything below freezing temperatures...where and when I drive it is mostly a temperate to hot climate. If I did a lot of cold weather driving I would probably go with a different weight oil...something like the Shell 5W40 instead.

I'm running Rotella T 10w 30 now but just got some T6 5w-40, and Mobil-1 0w 40 (That normally goes in my VW 1.8T) and I'm trying to decide which one should go in the 80. I can't decide.

I've run Chevron Delo 400LE 10W-40 since I replaced the head gasket and have been really happy with it.

I was planning on 0w30 Amsoil, but now I'm considering Rotella...first change is due.
