What to do with a pto

I may be getting a ramsey pto for Xmas. Not the winch just the pto. I am interested in coming up with an idea to make it functional for something. I already have an electric winch up front, that I am happy with, so adding a winch in not on the table. I thought about powering an on board air system with it mounted under the truck. I really want a knob in my fj40 that says PTO, it's just cool. Does anyone else have some creative ideas?

Does it have a rear-facing connector? How about a receiver-mounted blender? Or one of these:

It has a front and rear stub shaft. No need for a table saw but blender could work.

AFAIK, Ramsey never made a PTO drive system for any Toyotas. If it is identified as a Ramsey then maybe it came with a Ramsey winch. If you already have an electric winch on the front, then it will be very difficult to run anything else there. If the PTO has a rear facing output, then you could run any kind of farm equipment that had a pto input. Cement mixer, hay baler, converyors, etc. John

How about a rear winch

The FJ40 pictured in my avatar has a Ramsey Winch and Ramsey PTO. The knob doesn't have PTO printed or stamped into it. I am also glad the knob is mount to the bottom of the dash so it I decide to go to a OEM PTO winch I won't have hole to fill in dash. My 70 FJ40 and 62 FJ40 which has the more common mounting location for the knob.

Guess it depends what kind of work you want to do. Personally I'd love to be able to mount a screw type wood splitter to the back go my truck. Unfortunately the gas tank is in the way on late model 40's

So, other rhan PTO powered winches, what did they use them for? I know Ramsey made a lot of snow pow setups, but I thought most of those were electric over hydraulic. Pix would be nice of the Ramsey PTO drive gear box on the transfer case. John

My personal favourite obscure PTO use...a welder! Everyone should have one.

You could run a rear diff on your tralier with the rear PTO output shaft.

power wagon and willys both had front or rear ptos and would run any 3 pt hitch attachments that fit a tractor .problem is on some stuff you need a belt driven govenor to control engine pulse a small air compressor would be simple and not need the gov.ive had rear mounted pto,s on several fj40s and it tucks neatly up in the back out of the way.a throttle cable to control engine rpm,s is also useful .

Other than a rear winch hooked to the ramsey... the only other thing i had seen was a post hole digger mounted to the ramsey in an fj40... the ramsey box was very much the same style as the jeep ones.... so any jeep farm impement would also be able to be used for the toyota... very famous (at least to me ) cruiser with a full ramsey winch and box set up was the trans world truck

I will have to look online for a picture of the box mounted... or if you google "ramsey pto box" and toyota you'll probably get some hits... the post hole digger i never took pictuers of... pre-phone camera days LOL ... but a google search will find many for the jeep

Some really great ideas! I like the welder and the 6x6 trailer idea. Do you think the trailer axel would cause trouble in low range I think it might stay in high range and the truck go to low range.

How much torque can one of these ramesey units handle. I would think the demands of a worm gear winch would be rather low???

Could It handle the generator for a welder or the stress of a post hole digger?

If I wanted a plain old pto stub out back which way does it have to rotate to work with most farm implements?

If went with the plain stub I could make lots of different fun stuff for it. Like this. This would make you almost as popular as pto driven keg cooler.
