Flux capacitor, improves overall performance.

That one and the other one under the dash for the heater vent control.

Normally I would search a little before asking lol but I was outside on my phone and was perplexed. Believe me I knew I was risking the wrath of the 'try using search' police when I asked ...at least I didn't get that...yet :)

Thx; just one note its a 72. I don't care if its original maybe the po had picked up this dash pad from a newer 40.

I bought my 68 back in 1974. The dash was covered with blue indoor outdoor carpeting. Under the carpeting the dash was toast already. Lived in Flagstaff at the time but cruiser came from Phoenix.Few later I found a newer dash in a junkyard which I bought and installed it. Inside of my 68 looks more like a 74 than 68.

Is it just me.... Or does this stupid little light come up once a month for the "what is it" :)

Is there a "what is it?" Best of thread?

It would just be one more thread with useful information that gets ignored, because the forum cannot read the users mind and not only find everything for them, but repair their vehicle for them as well.

I say again...normally I would search the forum. I was a bit impatient being outside and hoping for a quick answer as I went thru my parts; I really didn't want to go inside to look up what this was being farking dirty! I login to mud nearly every day and I don't ignore posts or purposely ask questions when the answers are easily found. It was a spur of the moment question as I peered at this strange thing on my dash pad and didn't have access to my pc. Hopefully I didn't put anyone out by forcing them to read and/or reply about such a trivial issue that everyone should be aware of.

That's alright sl1k2k1

It's not you... It's that light :D ... I am not one who hates things (at all) but if I were to pick one thing to hate, it might be that light LOL

Maybe work is getting to me ... Out in the sun and burning hot wearhouse stocking and cleaning concrete forms, even smashed my hand with a hammer and instead of seeing stars I think I saw that light :D

Enjoy Mud

Easy now, just take the spanking and don't ask for a beating. We've all been guilty of the "what is this" bug and getting trashed for asking is just the price you pay for not having time to search. Enjoy your build and look forward to the time you get to be the first to tell someone to search.

interior lighting was non existent in my 77 until i started tinkering with the dash pad light. Unscrewed it the other day to take a look and removed the dirty lens/bulb cover and BAM, I have light! It isn't the best light but I like how it casts shadows across the dash nobs.

How's your bezel orientation?

Shift knob heater

I have heard someone say it was a NATO spec for reading maps under the dim green light so the enemy could not see your position except you have to pull light switch to the marker light position or full headlights for it to come on....so much for hiding from the enemy....or maybe it is so dim I dont see it when my light switch is off and engine is running.....hopefully they don't hear the clackity clack of that stealth engine (referring to the BJ42 NATO spec).

Mine is bright as hell. I have the highest lumins green LED I could get from Superbightleds.com and then lined the bucket with aluminium foil. Mine is actually too bright now and I plan to remove the foil to see if it makes a bit darker.

Just in case you want it to actually light your dash.
