1) What is the best place to apply a kill switch to a Diesel BJ-44?

Can't really apply to distributer, coil, etc... Guess they forgot to install those on Diesels.

2) What are the best GPS auto alarms that contact you if your car is moved? Who makes them, where do you buy them, etc...

3) How expensive is Lojack now-a-days? And do they have Lojak in Canada/ Saskatchewan? (Obviously a questoin for our Northern friends).

4) What is the best type of auto alarm with siren and maybe transmitter to a key fob to tell me there is a theft?

Thanks in advance. I have been reading about several FJ/BJ/HJ thefts and I would like to prevent my BJ from becoming a statistic.

Starter kill is very easy to bypass with a car starter battery from any auto parts store.

Kill a pump and someone can still start and drive if the system is pressurized IIRC. Then they can tow. I want the car dead on the spot.

What about GPS?

Howdy! How about a discreet fuel cutoff switch between the tank and pump? Use a normally closed valve, so it only needs power to open it. Label the switch "ALARM". John

Howdy! Just check the size of the fuel line before you order, and maybe you can even find a location on the line where there is already a fitting, so you don't have to cut and flair anything. I suppose if you pick a spot upstream from the pump, you could cut in a bit of soft line and hose clamp it together safely. Summitt, Jeggs, local farm supply store, McMaster Carr, should all have what you need. Just pick one with the right voltage 12/24. John

Fuel shut off ground

I once wired a kill switch on the ground for the fuel shut off solenoid on a LuLL diesel forklift and hid it under the seat.

Someone might think to run a power wire to the fuel shutoff aka hot wiring but probably would not know why it didn't work after that

Put a switch under the hood to prevent the electrical system from getting power from the batteries, then install some kind of hood lock so thieves can't get at the switch. There is no such thing as an unstealable vehicle, but if it takes too much work the thieves will look elsewhere.

On another tact:

Install a brake line isolation valve (do a search there are a few threads on Mud) in a discrete location like inside a high quality, locking, center console. When you park it, hold the brake pedal down and close the valve. With a little practice, it'll be a fluid (no pun intended) operation that even if observed will not raise suspicion. Now even if they get the engine fired, it's not going far with one or more wheel locked up. Another deterrent is to leave the transfer case in neutral. these two ideas along with a fuel & elec. cutoff and whatever else you come up with will make them give up.
Unfortunately, if they show up with a tow wagon or flat bed tow truck it'll still be gone. Little replaces good neighbors and big dog or two!

My humble suggestion is to install 'Magna Volt' from the Robocop movie. It locks them in the driver's seat and kills them. Ahhhh....if only there was such a thing.

I have a jacobs electronic ignition system on my 40... has a "kill switch" that when activated, if you start the truck it will run for a second or two then sputter and die like something is wrong with the engine.

Nice little added feature with a performance add on. Have no idea if they have anything like that for a diesel though.

If your fuel injection pump has cut off the fuel flow to the engine, how would the system get pressurized and allow the engine to run?

It won't. And turning off the electricity won't do much good if they can get under the hood. Electricity makes it easier to start the diesel. but is not required to run it. Let me under your hood with jumper cables and I can start your BJ even if you remove the batteries and disconnect the wiring - all I need access to is the starter and the EDIC motor. And I don't need power to the EDIC motor. I think all the BJ owners are aware of this, too.

My kill switch
nothing is foolproof but this will take a perp a while to cut through..

everything is welded and no easy access for cut- thru at any point.
Fastened throught the floor underneath as well.
I just pop the knob off and pull it off. Most fixes are just a deterrent anyway
and its locked in reverse.

I was away for the week of the 4'th, and the welded home brew stuff is also a great idea Bennet. I might take a stab at it.

I saw someone make a reference to your steering wheel cover lock.. and I couldn't find it until now. That looks pretty effective! I am about to take delivery of a beautiful '71 FJ40, and I'm worried about theft. At my work, 3 or 4 thefts have occured in the last year or so, all unsecured older vehicles without hood locks, engine kills, alarms, etc. So.. that basically describes my new '71 FJ. I think I'll get that wheel lock, but the website is down. Are they still available? I also have an aux tank, so I plan on keeping it empty, and flip the aux switch as a poor-man's fuel switch. May also install a kill switch in a non-functioning cigarette lighter or hazzard switch.. oh yeah.. may also try to find a discrete hood lock.
