So after two years of being Cruiser-less, I finally bought another one (LK470) last weekend. It is a 2001 cream puff from Beverly Hill in really clean condition with 123,000 miles. It is stock aside from a set of Toyo ATs, but I'm looking forward to taking care of that.
As my first act of aggression, I pulled off the running boards and found something bolted to the frame that I cannot figure out. This is a more complicated vehicle than I am used to pulling apart so I don't want to just remove stuff and hope for the best. Can anyone tell me what function this serves and if it is OK to remove? I electronically "thumbed" through the FSM and didn't see it. I am just looking to remove things that are potential sources for hanging up on a rock.

Thanks!

Welcome to the 100 Forum...

The weird lump protects the blinker fluid reservoir and also has a number of other functions as you will soon see...

Flux capacitor, it allows your 100 to travel through time. Get a copy of the FSM* to find out how to reprogram the ECM to do this.

Blinker fluid. Perfect. I was afraid it held all my expensive smoke. Years of owning and working on English cars taught me to be very cautious of the various smoke reservoirs hidden throughout.

The flux capacitor makes sense too. I don't think my 80 would have done 88 mph, so I'm guessing it didn't come with one.

Balls! First post back in years and I put up something in the FAQ's! I accept shame and scorn.

I'm pulling it off. I'll report back if it causes any of the resonance it was put on there to stop.

Dial up modem for when you are upside down and need help!

Being that it's all fancy, I'll use a coaster. Don't want to leave water marks! :D

(Chive On!)

Cup holder for when you flip it.

(Vibration Dampener)

Welcome back

Truly, it's the first "boat anchor" attached to a modern vehicle in case you need it to sink!

This could have been posted today and I would have laughed (just a tiny laugh, not coffee nostrils or anything like that).
Seeing it was actually posted yesterday made me a little sad.

With all due respect and welcome to the newbs; please search and get to know the forum before posting.

I fear the folks with much to offer here will soon tire of the same 'ol and the 100 section will suffer for it.

It's all good. We've all done it at some point. Gives us a break from the "will this tire fit" threads.

You know, the FAQ is impossible to find... I was expressly looking for it just now, and ignored the FAQ because it ends with "Featured Trucks"

Can you spot the difference?

Sticky: 100 series LC/LX FAQ and Featured Trucks

If anyone needs another one to balance out your truck I have one for sale , or I can put it in free with purchase of TC UCAs. (shipping not included)

I removed mine because it was slowing me down ! The thing is heavy you know. Maybe I added 1+ mpg.

:D

Its there for a reason, leave it there.

It's there for a NVH issue that Mr. T felt necessary to mitigate. None of us, however, have detected any difference.

Any particular reason you want to remove it?

It's a 10 lbs dingleberry hanging down from the frame rail that is ripe to be picked by the first rock/stump/ledge. Better to have a smooth rail than an anchor.
