My younger brother is looking at older toyota trucks to use as a daily driver/run to home depo kind of truck. He has a super short in town commute on rough city streets. I asked him why he was looking at these trucks. He said he liled the older simplicity, less to break and able to handle the rough streets better than a euro car lile he has now.

So this is my real question. What is the suspention difference between the 4wd and 2wd trucks? Obviously the 2wd dont have the ttansfercas, front drive shafts and front drive line. But from a duribility point of view are they the same build quality? Are the smaller little 2wd trucks suspension steering assembly and drive line stuff just as stought as the 4wd suspension? Or is it a lighter build?

Mostly lighter stuff, but for the simple fact that most street truck don't take the beating that wheeling dishes out. For just a commuter the 2wd should be just fine.

Off the top of my head ... 2WD trucks have:
  • Different sheet metal, most notable on the fenders.
  • Different grilles.
  • 7.5" rear diffs vs. the 8" of the 4WD.
  • Are IFS with torsion bars in the front (same idea as 1986+ 4WD).
  • Have the same carbed or EFI engines as 4WD trucks.
For what he wants to do I think the 2WD will be just fine.

Sorry guys buy i talked to my brother and he actually wants a 4wd which i think is great. So i kind dont reallu need this info. But it is some cool info. I dint know so much was different.

Don't know where you are, but my first Toyota was a 1983 2WD pickup. It was TERRIBLE in the snow, even with a bunch of weight in the back. In fact, I only had it about a month and on the way home in the first storm, I wrapped it around a tree. :crybaby:

I drove that truck like that for almost a month while I fought with the insurance company. Couldn't open the passenger door. But it was a great truck and I was sold on the durability of the brand.
