What I did in Germany over the summer.

So we parked 4 stories underground to go shopping today. Notice in the picture from the previous post that just about any lift or roof rack would not work.
We went into the store above the parking garage to do some early Christmas shopping. Didn't have to go far past the elevator door to find what I wanted.
HD FL if I'm not mistaken. Hell it could have a shovel head in it for all I care.

Well it appears as if everyone had a great time at Black Balsam. Wish I could have been there. I had a great time driving out a few years ago and resolve to return in a few more.
The in laws were in town for a visit so the wife and I took off to Paris for a long weekend. I'm originally from New Orleans so everything seemed pretty familiar to me. Except the driving.
The driving/drivers is/are nuts. I mean NUTS. Italy doesn't have anything on this place. No lines to mark traffic lanes and hundreds of scooters all over the place.
In the short time we were there it did offer up a Ferrari and a Porsche GT3.
The old bag didn't belong to the Ferrari. She just wouldn't move until the owner stuck his head out of the shop and told her to move away from his car.
Personally I'd take the GT3. It screamed bloody murder when the owner jumped on it.

For those off us on the lower end of the vehicle purchasing totem pole the scooters and motorcycles were in abundance. I tried to get a couple shots of some of the nicer old motos (Yamaha Enduro bikes) that would occasionally pop up, but they left a blur on the iPhone. All I have is a static of an R 90. Sorry @dmark84

School fall break started on Thursday so we decided to take off for a long weekend. We chose to hit up Ireland.
While I did see a sweet diesel 200 series on the way to our destinations I was driving in the rain and couldn't snap a pic. Usually no big deal but this was my first time here and...
Behold; our ride.
Toyota, RHD, diesel wagon with a manual transmission. Talk about a weird sensation. The coup de grace is that the rear windows are (according to my son) "old timey".

All of this to learn and execute on B and C roads that, while are more roomy than the Black Balsam trail, are so by the slimmest of margins.

Two Irish LRs.
First is an OPW defender out at a park in the middle of nowhere.

The other is a newer LR 4 all decked out for the Coast Gaurd.

Back in Munich and waiting for my wife to pick me up when this dude nearly blows past. I heard it from a block away but was too slow with the phone for a front shot. Had there been no red light I would only be able to tell you about the orange blur with a bull on it.

I miss Munich. I spent a lot of time there when I worked for Siemens.

I "may" be in Germany next year, but I don't think it will be good ol Munich.

There are some really cool places to go, depending on where you are staying. It sort of looks like the east side from your pics, but *shrug*

Make sure you see the german museum of germany (lol)

Are you talking about The Deutches Museum? They had this really cool slot car track when I was a kid. And it was the first time I'd ever seen a Lamborghini Countach in person (my favorite childhood car). Do they still do weekend Volksmarches?

That is the place! Pretty amazing (and enormous) museum.

We live in an apartment that sits at the souther tip of the woods attached to Schloss Nymphenburg (west of the city center). It is a new apartment area and well developed for kids. Lots of swings, sand pits, and playgrounds spread around the apartment grounds. There is no street that runs right in front of our house and the back yard view is a gravel bike path and the woods. It is really quiet and we are definetely spoiled with lack of city noise, despite being in the city.
Despite all of the pictures I have posted, I do work, so I don't get to tour the city during the day. My son is in first grade and in school all day as well. My wife rides her bike all over and pulls the 2.5 year old behind her in the kid trailer. It is the best way to get from point A to point B and see the city. She runs errands, exercises and keeps active with Clair.
They have gone to the Deutsches Museum once or twice, the zoo once, and a few other places. Now that we are nearing the end of the year and my vacation is mostly used up we will be doing more of the "tourist in our own hometown" thing and spending the weekends in museums around the city. Really the weather has been great so far and we are saving the inside sightseeing for the weekends in the winter when it is either too cold to be outside or just rainy.
@DanKunz you are correct, the museum is huge and full of interesting stuff. When we make it in there I will take some photos and post them up. I know of a few radial engines that I'm sure most will find interesting.

I did see this clean older G Wagon while waiting on a bus the other day.
Notice the steel wheels and complete lack of bling on this one. This is a real G wagon and could be used in a manner similar to a Landcruiser. Tom Sheppard has used them extensively in his travels and many are seen/referenced in his book Vehicle Dependent Expedition Guide. Tom Sheppard - Four by four driving techniques and vehicle expedition driving
The ones with all the chrome may be just as capable as the older ones but I'd never know because I don't have time to take chrome on an off-road truck seriously.

20L stamped steel fuel cans in the equivalent of an Ace Hardware store. 28 Euros. I think a few of these will find their way into the container on the way home. Un-used naturally.

We rode our bikes to church this morning and along the way ran across this "Old Timer" car dealership. Three VW buses, a Land Rover Series II (I think) an original Mini, the BMW 6 series in the foreground (best body style ever next to the M6 Gran Coupé and a 3.0 Csl), a Citroën 2CV and a MB G-Wagon tucked in the back.

Happy Thanksgiving guys. The family is having Tacos tonight. T.G. is a workday in DE, but we are having a meal on Saturday night with some other Expats over here.
Y'all stay safe.

Thanks for all the updates! Glad to hear you guys are doing well and making memories.

Hadn't seen much in a while. It is dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home.
Case in point; I spotted this little work van at about 5:30. It was as dark as a could be. I think it was a Mitsubishi. There are a few brands that come in this size and you can find them in the states but because they don't meet crash test standards they aren't able to be registered (easily).
I'd drive one.

I love vans like that! Before we moved to SC I sold my "Space Cruiser", a 1986 Toyota Van in cargo trim.
They made a 4x4 5spd version, but mine was 2wd auto. Found it on craigslist with only 30k original miles.

I'm a couple of days late with this but...
Merry Christmas.
Not a whole lot going on over here. I am off of work for the holidays so maybe instead of being cooped up in an office I'll get a chance to spot some nice rides while I'm out and about with the family. i spotted this the other day. It may be tough to see cause the sun was shining bright and I was driving into it. VW vans of all ages and configurations are in abundance here but this one stood out. Syncro decked out with roof rack, snorkel, sand ladders, sliders and probably a whole lot more.

Stay tuned. There are a few more (vans) I see frequently enough to snap some photos of. Mind you they aren't extravagant off road monsters, but look like practical family haulers/camper conversions. When I say conversions I mean professional camper options. Not a bucket of resin and sheet of chop mat type stuff.
