What I did in Germany over the summer.

Germany has so much to offer in the automotive realm, but it is not immune to outright tacky. Exhibit A.

image.jpeg

They make up for it by parading around in Geländewagens with lifts, roof racks and snorkels. Or exacerbate the tacky depending upon you liking G wagons or not.

image.jpeg

What if I made it up to you by posting another Diamler with a motor home back, six wheels and a snorkel?

I did see this clean older G Wagon while waiting on a bus the other day.
Notice the steel wheels and complete lack of bling on this one. This is a real G wagon and could be used in a manner similar to a Landcruiser. Tom Sheppard has used them extensively in his travels and many are seen/referenced in his book Vehicle Dependent Expedition Guide. Tom Sheppard - Four by four driving techniques and vehicle expedition driving
The ones with all the chrome may be just as capable as the older ones but I'd never know because I don't have time to take chrome on an off-road truck seriously.

20L stamped steel fuel cans in the equivalent of an Ace Hardware store. 28 Euros. I think a few of these will find their way into the container on the way home. Un-used naturally.

Pardon my interruption, but I use those a lot with my Series 80, here, and they just plain work. Be sure to grab a couple of the spouts, though. Nothing else really works with them.

I saw the spouts hanging next to the cans. I pulled one of each out and fumbled around with them for a few minutes. They are a simple pair to tightly couple.
You are right though, there isn't much else that can be coupled to the can and the spout without the can is mearly a bendy tube with a flange.

A couple more trucks.
The Iveco Eurocargo was a beast of a SWB truck. The Baumkontolle operator of this thing is a lucky dude.
It would be awesome to put a living pod on the back of it and get lost.
image.jpeg

I have no idea what is parked behind it. If you know post up.
Best guess I have is an old Tatra or Kamaz with some cobbled up camping quarters based on the original box.
Probably still worth grinding the gears on.

So I've shown y'all a fair amount of vehicles and most have been side or front 1/4 shots. What I haven't shared are pictures of tractor trailers; and with good cause. There is no need to. They are just big trucks. But trucks in Germany, and other European countries I suppose, are speed limited. There isn't a throttle stop on them, but they are limited to a certain speed on the autobahn. The speed they are limited to is usually indicated by the application of a big round white sticker on the trailer. The limiting speed is displayed in the circle.
This is also the case for campers, personal trailers, etc. As such the stickers can be purchased at ADAC (German equivalent of AAA with a fleet of tow trucks and rescue helicopters).
I stopped in to by a map for my dad and what did I see but speed limit stickers!
My LC can go faster than 80 km/h but I think its only fitting.

So it's been kinda quiet around here. Well we went to Texas for Easter and then I had to fly back for a two week business trip. On top of all that it has been cold here. It snowed Monday Tuesday and Wednesday so not a lot of drop tops tooling around.
We did see these today. A couple of Iveco Eurocargo trucks on a flatbed with some tractors. I was driving so my 7 year old snapped the photos.
I posted one a few posts back but that is a darker truck and it was overcast so not a real spectacular shot. I couldn't help but think of the luxurious cabin that could be built on the back of this platform.

Yeah. That'd require about 3/8" of armor at least.

This dude passed me yesterday. No big deal for most of America but a jacked Ford F-250 Super Duty is not an everyday sighting here. In fact this is the only one I've ever seen. The sun was not nice to the photographer. Sorry.
image.jpeg

Almost drove past this today but stopped in the middle of traffic to snap a pic. Great looking setup. The spares are not directly on the cab, but I couldn't make out what was mounted up there to take the weight. Regardless I'd take it in a heart beat. Same goes for the doka Hilux I past yesterday. No photos of that. There was a 100k/h speed differential.

Lastly. I wish Buick still made a car this reliable. The wood spoke wheels were in amazing shape.
image.jpeg

I want a Unimog tractor with three point hitch for my work commute too
image.jpeg

Seriously. It has a pretty impressive presence. Even two cars back in the rear view mirror. Sorta like that scene out of Duel
image.jpeg

Don't drive this. Please don't. Especially with the horns.
image.jpeg

And if you have to drive a MB, drive one of the last decent ones. W114. I suppose a W123 would be okay but beyond that...

We had a long weekend. We headed over to the Black Forest for a few days of sight seeing and on the way home stopped at the Porsche museum.
Here is a smattering of what was on display:
1939 Type 64 body. I'm pretty sure this is a reproduction cause I couldn't imagine something this valuable being within the reach of my kids.

A gorgeous red 1950's 356/2.

A 550A

1971 917/20. Pink Pig.
600 PS (just under 600 horsepower) and 360 k/hr in 1971!

A 1998 911 GT1 Straßenversion.

The current 918 Spyder in Martini Racing livery.

We had a holiday today so I booked a car to drive for the day. I figure there are very few chances for me to wind one of these out on the highway. M6 Grand Coupé. 500+ ponies and while I've driven some fast cars I've never been cruising at 190k/h and had the front end lift after stepping into it some more.
image.jpeg

I had to go to BMW World to pick it up. They had a few displays worth posting. DTM season started on May 7th. This is the new M4 car. BMW went with the 4 series as the 2 door version of the 3 series. The 3 Series is the 4 door, sedan, saloon and or wagon, touring, estate. All depending on your country of origin.
Basically the M4 and M3 are the same just a matter of # of doors. Don't anyone start laying into me about hp weight and the ratio. It's just a picture thread.
image.jpeg

The BMW group also owns Rolls Royce. So how about some R&R? Phantom anyone?
image.jpeg

This is the V12 that resides under the hood. It is a tidy little package here but I've seen a complete bare powertrain before installation. It is a beast.
image.jpeg

The notes on the display said that while cruising at 70mph it is so efficient, 90% of its power is stil available for acceleration. I'd like to verify that myself. But I haven't found anyone goofy enough to loan me a Rolls... Yet.
Maybe a nice Wraith. It is more of a car you drive versus the Phantom.
image.jpeg

Yeah. That'll do.

The i8 is pretty nice too. See lots of them here.
image.jpeg

In Prague for a long weekend.
We'll start with the rally prepared Trabant that is now a 10€ Thai massage advert. No big deal as far as automobiles go, but I'd still like to drive one to say I've driven one. Not every day you can drive a car that was made in part by pressed saw dust.
No I did not get a massage.
image.jpeg

Maseratis abound here. This isn't that good of a picture but I haven't seen any drop tops in Germany.
image.jpeg

Ferrari... Something no longer in production. It is it a California.
image.jpeg

Finally a good time to drop a B
