Working through the spaghetti! Thanks to everyone on the site for the help gettingn5ings sorted out. It’s the original ’72 harness that was mostly intact, but with a ‘76 drivetrain, DUI and Dakota guages there needed to be some moving things around. To add to it, only about half of the colors on my harness match the diagrams along with other small anomalies.
With everything spread out, it was easy to sort and everything is working 😮

I can’t remember why now, but for some reason, I decided to put a ‘76 steering column in the ‘72.
Now that I’m tackling the wiring I was really stressed about the late models turn signal switch with the early harness. Much thanks to Coolerman and all the previous posts on the subject I was able to get everything working. Again, most of the published info on the switch was wrong but after playing with it and the multimeter, I was able to get it working.
The big key is pulling the horn lead out of the connector and switching it out with the green/white lead from the brake switch.
Here is how it ended up looking

Put about 1200 miles on it this weekend (Friday to Monday). Nothing broke, leaked or fell off. I'll count that as a win.

The Bilstein shocks are a huge improvement over the OMEs I had on there.
Very nice that's quite a haul for a weekend!

Also sweet kayak and scenery, given my calculations and how familiar that water looks I'm going to guess you were at the Russian River's end?

I travel that road several times a year to launch my kayak at Fort Ross for fishing, looking forward to when the 40 will be up for long trips like that again.

Further north although when I first built it I was living in Occidental and would paddle from Monte Rio to the coast on the Russian River.
These pictures were taken on the Navarro River just south of Albion. The white building in the distance is the old Navarro By The Sea bar / restaurant restored to its original form and now a museum. I liked it better as a bar. A wild guy by the name of Jack Sparkman ran it in the 60’s and 70’s.

That does look awfully familiar. I think you're right.

edit: Nevermind, he updated the location. Close though. In our neck of the woods for sure.

I bought a 1987 isuzu pup so I could work on the fj40... haha sorta. But it will be nice when I need to do my knuckle job and windshield gasket on my saltwagon Fj40

I had one of those in the 4x4 flavor with a 4 on the floor. I beat the crap out of that thing offroad and it lasted surprisingly for a long time with high mileage when I sold it.

Looking at how that back wheel is dug in...did she keep going after hitting the pole?
Not sure since I wasn’t with her at the time. The back spring shackle was inverted though. I managed to get it corrected with a bottle jack. On a good note, the new dobinson spring rear sag is gone now. Some of you guys that have the “sag” should try inverting the shackle over night and it magically cures the sag or just let your wife drive 😂

Looking at this picture I’m inclined to think she was mad at you big time.

Aren't those "Anti Inversion" Shackles?
