Once my Dad repaired a worn out NLA nylon speedo gear by heating 1/8" brazing rod segments about 1/2 long and melting them into the gear. He then filed the tooth profile with a needle file. I think he did 2 segments per tooth and it work like a champ for many years. +1 for changing mating gears as a pair if you can.
I wouldn’t throw the 29ers to the wolves just yet. I’m a bit taller than you (but no much) and I love mine. I’ve got my boy (5’4”) on them as well- trail and dh bikes. I’m not saying they’re are better, but they are made for all heights anymore. Wife road the kids 29er dh bike this fall and she wants one too. She’s 5’1”.That cracked me up, YES! I didn't realize that when I was making decisions, it was more like, this was the bike I did well on when I was racing beginners mens category back in the day, so I'm not ever getting rid of it, but I want to upgrade. Also, 29ers are too tall. Sorry everyone, but that tire is just too big, says this 5'9" dude. But rolling resistance (smack!) I'm getting back in shape and going to SMOKE some genZ 29er riders!
It was a bummer not to ride the bike, but life happens. I gotta say rolling around on fins and things was pretty fun too. Not a hardcore trail, but it’s fun just to roll up and down the rocks.I knew that looked familiar. Did a three day mtb trip in Moab with some buddies in 2015. Rode Amassa, TWE and Mag 7. Would love to take the LV and do some easier trails (can't risk damaging the unicorn)

And now for something completely different... I had an extra aluminum valve cover and 4 acorn-style nuts, so just for grins, I had them powder coated. I removed the polished valve cover and replaced it with the powder coated one. It is definitely a personality change under the hood.

I am curious about the cost of powder coating. While refurbishing my rear hatch I got a quote for $200 minimum for powder coating the strut assemblies. Seems high.
I bought a 1987 isuzu pup so I could work on the fj40... haha sorta. But it will be nice when I need to do my knuckle job and windshield gasket on my saltwagon Fj40
$200 is their minimum charge. They're saying it's not worth it for them to do any work less than that. They know their bottom line and labor cost. If you would've shown up with 1 strut it would've still cost $200. You probably should have asked how many more items you could get done for $200.

We've found it to be cheaper than wet paint in fairly small production runs, but if you need a specific colour for one item then it's not worth it.
If you're happy with whatever colour they have in the hopper (usually black) then can be cheap.
$200 tells me they're not interested
@Green Bean that does look nice…the polished valve covers for me, were always a source of labor. I found them demanding time polishing them to keep up appearances. A tube of simichrome was always 1/2 empty. Particularly on the motorcycles. My 45 has a polished one and the 40 was painted green.
Back when I did the sniper install I stripped it and used a new gasket to paint it…it’s not powder and it would be good if it was but I have not trouble so far and it looks REALLY clean. I have been using this from Home Depot and then clearing over it with this other stuff… glossy as hell, cheap and quick

I redid the weatherstripping on the ambulance doors with OEM Toyota weatherstripping part#

Changed out the slave cylinder which was most likely the original since the flex hose had a band with “3/77” on it indicating that was when it was put on and that’s the original build date for my 40.I went with an Aisin replacement and replaced the line with a stainless steel line from Manafre. I also replaced the air cleaner to carb gasket & some other weatherstripping on the rear sil and front doors got that from City Racer.

Ok, so my seats were recovered many years ago with a fabric that didn’t appear to like the sun! The passenger seat below is nothing compared to the drivers seat. My son’s GF asked if it was attacked by a bear… lol
I thought I could just cover them with an outdoor carpet with some waterproofing. Below are the results. Kinda looks like my grandmas old couch now… or like I covered them in carpet (which I did) lol. better than a bear attack I guess.

Put about 1200 miles on it this weekend (Friday to Monday). Nothing broke, leaked or fell off. I'll count that as a win.

The shiny polished aluminum valve cover is nice but our engine bays are practical and utilitarian. The color you chose just fits.
I bought a powder coating kit gun from Eastwood and enjoy the process. It’s very easy. The powder from Prismatic is great with baking time for some powders under 15 mins. The hard part is getting oven large enough and then hangin the parts without bumping into anything.

Working through the spaghetti! Thanks to everyone on the site for the help gettingn5ings sorted out. It’s the original ’72 harness that was mostly intact, but with a ‘76 drivetrain, DUI and Dakota guages there needed to be some moving things around. To add to it, only about half of the colors on my harness match the diagrams along with other small anomalies.

I can’t remember why now, but for some reason, I decided to put a ‘76 steering column in the ‘72.
Now that I’m tackling the wiring I was really stressed about the late models turn signal switch with the early harness. Much thanks to Coolerman and all the previous posts on the subject I was able to get everything working. Again, most of the published info on the switch was wrong but after playing with it and the multimeter, I was able to get it working.
The big key is pulling the horn lead out of the connector and switching it out with the green/white lead from the brake switch.
Here is how it ended up looking
