I have blue tooth speakers to add at a later date. Of course I don’t expect to hear anything in this with the headers and soft top. A working radio is for when I am broke down waiting to figure out how to fix it to get home....lol

a radio was high on my list when I bought the FJ40 - then I drove it and realized what a futile effort it would be.

Looks too high tech for a 40 series.
While this would be the best option for correct for a 40 series.
I just can't do it. Feel guilty installing one of these.
The radio/cassette going in the dash and CD changer will be hidden in shame in the glovebox.
This was the original plan, but I needed to add a speaker and such and the price of a retro was out of the budget for something that wouldn’t be used much. Eventually I can make the switch, of course I would need to add the dealer add-on antenna too.

Installed this super bright led festoon light as the dome light replacement.

Starting with small projects and trying to get a sense of the effort involved... Planning to run the soft top all summer and want to have a locking compartment. Not planning on installing a locking console at this point. Here was my solution now I just need to figure out where to mount it... Bought an ammo can on the weekend and had a couple spare tumbler locks.... Semi-secure storage option however if someone tries hard enough I'm sure they will get into it.

I wouldn’t feel guilty, those are less tacky than the typical aftermarket head unit. Are they single DIN though?

This week I got it back on the road! Fresh with factory running boards, steel wheels and hub cabs, and factory bumper. Feels great.
So nice. Green is so great on these.
been planning and setting aside parts to do a disk brake swap in my 66 fj40 for the past 20 years. knew it would be a can of worms so just kept running the old ball and claw/ drum brake set up.
getting the axle sorted this week. a 78 fj45 housing, hdj81 limited slip third member, bj60 knuckles, ifs hubs, tundra rotors/calipers. going to keep the 45 axle shafts and long bodied asco hubs for now but open the swivel ball up for newer/bigger birfs if I break one in the future.
test fitted the calipers on the front side of the knuckles, and it would work albeit a bit crowded, but I've basically got it apart so think I'll swap knuckles side to side and run the calipers on the back to use the stock brake line routing/brackets. went tundra calipers to try keeping manual brakes. not wanting to mess with fitting a booster at this time.
now to put it together and under the truck...

Yes there are all single DIN units with brackets to let them mount in double DIN opening. There are also all head units with external amps. That opens up the possibility of installing a nice five channel amp. Bought my 79 from a friend. Had no top or doors. Was blue and he painted it a flat olive drab green. Besides not sanding or primer do not think he even bothered to wash it first. When done it going to be a real mut. Not going to worry about anything being correct. Had no intention of selling it (owned since 1997) not worrying about hurt possible resale down the road. Still four other LCs I've owned longer. All the ones I've sold owned over ten years so really can't consider myself a flipper.

yeah i suppose. just stuff i've set aside over the years.
78 fj45 i owned for a short while about 18 yrs ago. rotten frame and cab and not enough space at the time to do a rebuild/resto while already building my fj40. regretfully it got parted and the 2f, 4 speed, and rear axle got swapped into my fj40. front axle i set aside for the future as i didn't want to keep the big 45 front drum brakes. but really that 45 is the majority of powertrain and running gear on this 40
the bj60 was a smashed up parts truck i found. was initially planning to run the standard 60 disk brake set up and steering bits.
the hdj81 diff i picked up at a show and shine the local club put on. the owner of the 81 changed the lsd for a locker and sold the lsd to me. looked inside. clutch pack seems ok. added a shim to the spring to add some preload.
tundra brakes new parts using an fror bracket set. the ifs hubs are from the wrecker yrs ago. Adds some track width to match the spacers i have on the rear axle to reduce rubbing of the inner fenders.

What year Tundra? I had a first gen I know had two different sizes of front disc brakes. Believe one set of pads were 5 1/2" and the other was 6 1/2". Never compared the rotors to the 40 series rotors. This rotors look way to big for 40 series 15" disc brake wheels. Canada for the 16" split rims but depending on which gen Tundra rotor might be to big for those. Have already figured out what wheel you will be running. Figure even with wheel spacers you still want the rotor sitting inside the wheel to be protected.
