Today I replaced the diaphragm for the secondary on the carby and replaced the rear shock absorbers...

Its good to feel the secondary... almost like a turbo on the 2F! The photo doesn't do it justice of how many holes were in the diaphragm, no wonder the vacuum wasn't working.

The rear shocks... after taking them off, they didn't even spring back.

After many months of waiting, working, buying parts and waiting, I have been able to finally get the hard top put on as well and the refurbished tail gate and steel doors. Converting the FST to a hard top for the winter has been a task and an expensive one. The hard top looked to be in fairly good shape but the further the hot rod shop dove into it the worse it actually was. The bottom of the tail gate was the worst, the bottom looked like a piece of lace with little holding it together. But they pulled off a small miracle and got the top in excellent shape for winter.

The doors were another story. The layers of paint were stubborn to remove and PO's had installed a variety of hardware and the windows would only roll down half way. The culprit was found to be a bolt that was to long. Once the paint and body work was completed on the doors I tried to rebuild them. Only one major screw-up, tried to install a much to long bolt into the door track which resulted in an exploding tempered glass. I found a glass shop that cut a piece of laminated glass and it fits well just doesn't have the original markings the broken one had.

The doors must weigh a good 45 to 60 pounds each with everything reinstalled. For an old man with a very bad back they proved a challenge to move, carry around and install back on the 40. I found that a farm jack like a Hi-Lift moved them up and down easily and helped ease the strain on my old beat up back. (Spinal stenosis L-4, arthritis, bone spurs and compressed disc) But they are on as well as the rear hatch. I am still missing three little parts for the hatch but they aren't that critical. I just need to spend some time adjusting the doors and hatch and touch-up the paint I managed to scratch.

Find some young folks to help support the doors while you adjust positioning. Us old dudes have to protect the spine! Looking good btw

Finally had some time to wake her up and take her for a spin

Made a bracket for the sediment bowl, out of a piece I cut out of the sill.

Right in the middle of welding the gussets in, ran out of .023 wire and had to finish with .035.

Tapped the holes to 1/8" NPT so I wouldn't have mess with ordering nuts and acorns.

Mounted it in the bolt holes in the reinforcement on the inner fender.

Folks that lined the tub saw fit to line the hole for the fuel line along with a bunch of others that left with plugs. Instead of cutting it all off made a plate to cover it.

Had to drill a hole in the floor that I hated doing.

Sealed it off with the same stuff I used on the hump. Not to bad I don't guess.

When I did the hinge bushings on my Astro, and my Chevy pickup, I used the motor hoist to support and hang the doors. Also, used nylon tie down straps to keep from scratching paint. It worked pretty slick.

Made a few more brackets, cause I have mix match stuff.
Accelerator return spring bracket, just a twisted piece of 1/8" with a few holes in it.

Needed one for the later model air cleaner inlet.

Took a few times to get the top bend to match to inlet.

Looks almost like it belongs there.
