Hinges on Ambulance doors were worn, with doors dropping. Tried to find if I could get replacement bushes, but decided to make my own.
Cut off the old pins, and put the one which usually has the plastic bush in my lathe and used a 12mm end mill to ream hole out both ends 10mm deep. Then made new bushes and reamed hole out to 8mm diameter. Had some m8 stainless steel cap head bolts, that I cut down to size and machined the head off and threaded to length, so the 8mm shank with no thread fits on the outer hinge. Assembled with dome headed nuts. May not be OEM, but they are better than original, and has made the door open/close really good. Still got to prepare hinges for painting (and rear cab and doors) as now decided to paint whole of truck Dune Beige as I think that colour is the best. Which means rubbing all of cab down, front guards and bonnet, but will be worth it. Thinking of painting the roof with some marine paint (Toplac) which can be put on with a roller and apparently comes out really smooth and bright white (like the new FJ cruisers)

Purchased a Christmas present for my 40, a brand new Optima battery!

The old Optima was not holding a charge so I re-purposed it as a boat anchor.

8025-160 25 Red Top Optima 720 CCA

my red top is 12 going on 13 years old now, still holding a good charge sometimes the truck sits for a couple of months between starts and the thing still turns over and fires up fine but I don't know how much longer I'll be getting out of the battery

I guess some are better than others, my old one is about 9 YO and it's done.

This is an amazing engine compartment, Kudos! mine doesn't look anything like this.

I did however purchase and install four 235/75r15 Firestone Winterforce SUV studded snow tires and I've never had such traction and positive maneuverability during the winter as I do now....yes!
Thanks Joseph!!

While I'm waiting on the parts from Mark, decided to check out the trans. I had already taken the transfer off. Pulled the plate the shifter locks in to.

Did a bunch of searching and came up with a good part #, and whadyano its still available 90501-14772. So I ordered all 3. With shipping came to $11.70, not bad!

Good catch. That could have become a nasty problem later on.

Got the shift rail cover off...or whatever its called.

Didn't look bad, but the input shaft had some up and down slop. So I had to make sure all was ok.

These things are a PITA!

question, what do those springs do? and if one is missing, worse case scenario?

Those hold your shifter in place so it doesn't "pop" out of gear...

@Vossie should be able to source a used one, I know the 41 and 42 4 speeds use the same ones.

Mmmmmmm so many shiny parts. wish I had the mech skills to do stuff like that (envy)

Get a manual and get dirty, take your time and dont over think it. Ohh. And make freinds with local crusierheads.. We have guys in our local club who started with no knoledge and with a little help have done amazing builds.. ohh and remember the ausie step 7 take a brake and have a beer... lol...

Land cruisers were designed for 3rd world conditions and mechanics, simple and well designed, unlike most of the stuff today designed to fail..
