Search for my "34s on stock suspension" thread to see the effort. 285/70R18 and 285/75R17 are effectively the same outer diameter, and I have the same tire. Only difference is I have +25 offset wheels vs the +60 stock wheels, but you can add a 1.25" spacer to get you to about +28 offset.

You can put "35's" on, but my "35" Nitto Ridge Grapplers are really just a touch over 34, and the width does mean rubbing on full lock even after significant adjustment in alignment (moving wheels forward) and the Slee relocation kit.

The 285/75/17s are almost exactly 34 also, but narrower, which would be just about perfect.

My 285/75R17 34s come out to ~33.2" at 38psi. (Tire sizes are based on maximum inflation per the DOT, so you're E-load 35s are only 35" at 80psi).

I do think they're the perfect tire - tall enough to add clearance, but not require too much modification to get them to work (some plastic trimming and/or reshaping and mudflap removal) and no requirement to re-gear for normal driving.

Maybe I mistakenly measured when I saw 285/75/17's on Slee's shop Tacoma. But I'm pretty sure the ridge grapplers on their Tacoma were taller. I dunno. Maybe @sleeoffroad can measure. Would be nice to know their mounted diameter. That's still a full inch taller than typical 285/70/17's...so pretty nice indeed.

Speaking of your 35" Ridge Grapplers and the 285/75/17 Ridge Grapplers I had last summer in Breck, I snapped these photos of your truck Mark parked next to mine. It actually took a me a minute to figure out which truck was which! :D The perspective is off a little here, but there was very little difference in tire height, but Mark's 35s were certainly wider. I cranked up the brightness in the pics to make it a little more visible:

Nice! But DANG! That would have been the perfect opportunity to line them up. Even identical wheels... My truck is a little farther back in the line-up, but judging by the gaps in the wheel well, it certainly point to an pretty similar diameter. I would ask you to go measure front to back, but you sold your beast!! :(

When they were new, I think they measured about 33.8”. They had about 6-7k miles on them in Breck...

That sounds about right. Was that measure front to back? Or top to ground (with squat)?

Very very close.

That will almost certainly be my next size.

That was measured side to side. I thought I had a pic of it somewhere, but I can't find it. I'll post it up if I see it.

What did I do to my LC this week? I bought it, lifted it, rack, bumper, winch, skid plate, changed all fluids, IPF LED regular and high beams, snorkel.... then found this site... haven't been productive since.... But like any proud father, I have to show someone some pics..

Nice build!!

Thinking your might want to attach your winch line somewhere higher.
If you manage to scrape your skids, it looks like it could snag rocks on your winch line...

Whaaaat??? Skotchlok connectors crimped onto the OEM wiring?? Noooo!!!!!:confused::mad::confused:

The manager at Pacific Tire Outlet in Milpitas says he can get them for sure but may take a couple days. Are you looking at the same size?

Just following up to mention that the 285/70R18 Ridge Grapplers are definitely available. I got curious and called Discount Tire Direct after I heard back from Nitto. They called Nitto HQ and sure enough were able to bring them if needed. One thing led to another and now I have new tires on the way and some nice KO2s to unload.

Well there ya go!

Look forward to checking those out in a few weeks! (OK, a month and a half...). :)

Now lets see if you can stop setting records for sidewall blowouts. Knock...on...wood...!!!

Tbisaacs: thanks. I still have a long list of things I’m going to try to accomplish in the next month or so. I live in Central Asia and I have a trip planned from Kyrgyzstan, through the Pamir mountains, and into the Wahkan Corridor of Afghanistan. We may also do 1 or 2 winter outings to some remote parts of Kyrgyzstan.

Markuson - Well spotted. I actually snapped that picture at the garage who helped with installation but I’ve already moved it so it won’t get damaged when I inevitably hit something with the skid plate in a river.

KLF: My next project involves electrical wiring (not my strong suit)-adding a Blue Sea fuse box to run my accessories from, LED spots on the bumper, reverse lights on the rack, USB/12v outlets for the second row and in the rear, possible light bar on the front of the rack. The crimp on connectors in that photo were that way when I bought the car a couple weeks ago - excuse my ignorance, but let me know why it is horrifying and with the best alternative / proper connection would be.

@Waalkman you should always use waterproof connectors on any exterior wiring. Those basic connector you have will corrode
