Starting LVP fix

Sweet he mentioned he made a video with it. Maybe I’ll be able to do it next time 😂
He made no mention of accessing the cooler line for draining though!

If you disconnect from the cooler, you can get almost all of the old fluid out!!!

Looks like he missed removing the transmission oil pan tube (see manual below) and never drained the pan as much as he could per drain cycle. Results in him draining only 1.2 quarts (see at 4:10 min onwards).

This video shows it proper at 2:35 min. It then drains about 2.9 quarts per "drain cycle".

While this is appreciated and informative, I’m not entirely sure what you expect me to do with this information?

It’s informative to the tech and shop for the future, and I’d be curious to see his thoughts on why it wasn’t done…I’m not the type to take work back and tell people the internet said you did it wrong. Why don’t you comment on the YouTube video and see what he says?

Thanks for the heads up. The service info we subscribe to is missing that section. It only shows pulling the initial plug. I thought that it was odd that you could only drain so little at a time. I ended up doing it a few times until I had run 6 quarts of fresh fluid through. I removed the video since, it's missing a step.

Thanks for the video and even more so for following up when presented this info. There’s a video with a sheckshey voice floating around here by a guy who did it a little differently. He disconnected from the trans cooler and had a helper watch volume drained while cycling through gears. Once approx 3.5 qts drained, engine stopped, Volume replaced, repeat until fluid appeared fresh. Final level was the same as in your old video.

I got curious and plugged a few different years in to the look up on our service info. Up until 2019 it shows pulling the tube like the above post in the general transmission fluid section. For 2020 they split the drain instructions in to a separate heading that didn't come up in the usual results. So it technically was in the info we subscribe to, just not in the place it has been for years. No idea why they split it out. Again, thanks for the heads up!

Question for the group.

Friend manages one of those “Valvoline Oil Change” centers, like a slightly better jiffy lube.

Was explaining to me the other day, they use “Evacuators” now for oil changes to reduce liability of stripping drain plugs and that many of the cars/trucks they see already have mangled drain plugs when they arrive. Also saves having to mess with skid plates and such

Was telling me the 200 tranny is very easy to do with this method for a fluid refresh.

I honestly don’t know much about this process at all, but curious because I’ve never heard it mentioned here.

Thoughts from the group?

I figured. Did that job myself aswell. The only issue I had was the front passenger front EGR bolt would not come out due to clearance. The EGR bolts all four were murder to me getting them back in. I advise placing a rag behind the EGR when you reinstall to catch the bolts should you drop them.

I pressure tested the system before I put everything back by connecting the two small hose in the front to each other.

Good on you for doing it yourself, a big savings.

After thinking about it for a long time, I decided to give these aluminium racks a chance to make the trunk a bit more organized.
Came from China in about a week and the installation itself was completed in 20 minutes. The adhesive pads hold very strongly but you can (as I did) also screw everything down with the screws supplied if you don't care about holes in the paneling.

Great, thanks for clarifying!

For now my plan is at 50 or 60k miles to just drain the pan a couple of times and fill up again, while shifting through the gears and eventually fill to the right level as shown on the video I shared above. I do not think I will disconnect at other places with a) the risk of creating a leak there after several changes and or b) somehow starve the gearbox/torque converter from oil as I DIY this as a single person. Not saying that disconnecting at the oil cooler is wrong, just makes it more involved for limited gain so it seems.
