Cut out the exploded muffler and welded in a replacement. It is a DynoMax 17748 that has been recommended in a few threads on here. Welding on your back with little access is a real pain. It's hard to get a good bead with slag raining down on your neck and running down your shirt.
On a side note, has anybody wrapped their muffler with heat shield? It gets so hot under there that one of the body mount hole caps completely melted.

Weekend plans are to wire up the OEM e-locker axle in my 1998 UZJ100. We'll see how far I get when the mountains are calling too :D

Hey Kurt,

Do you happen to know of any thread that discusses the factory rear locker axle swap on a '98-'99 UZJ100?
All I can find is threads installing them on 2000-2002 that didn't come with them.

From what I can tell, it's the whole axle housing/diff, A rear wire loom, a "sub ECU/Control Module" and a magic dial.
(and maybe a bulb for the gauge cluster indicator)

I don't know of any threads but it should be about as straightforward as you detail, I don't recall anything odd about them. I was able to get the exact parts you mention along with the full axle from Japanese Auto Wrecking here in Utah. We've done similar on 7x's and 8x's so I don't expect it to be too odd.

Steve's place :-) That's where I was going to source one. LOL!
Thanks, Kurt.

Exactly! Great gents. Steve and Finn hooked us up with this axle assembly and parts earlier this year. The axle under the 1998 was really rough and they ripped an upper control arm bracket off the axle housing.

Went to Cruisers On The Rockies last week and ran into some issues at altitude. I could not fill my gas tank without it clicking off constantly, my fuel tank was building up pressure, and fuel was spilling out. Also lost a coil pack on the way home. Once I got home, I hit Rockauto and PartSouq and ordered a bunch of parts. New Denso coils and spark plugs, new fuel pump and strainer, new fuel filter, vapor canister, and Vapor valve. The Vapor canister came with a broken barb so waiting on a replacement. While I was at it, I replaced the gas cap and the rubber hose between the filler hard line and gas tank. It was really obstructed by what looks like the inner liner of the hose. Hopefully this will fix my issues for next year!

I’m a few days behind catching up on posts, so someone may have already offered this, but I solved this issue by insulating the fuel tank near the exhaust with adhesive reflective insulation, and wrapping the fuel lines with reflective insulation as well.

Colorado was truly a great place to be. Im jealous of you guys out there.

COTR 2 was a good shakedown run for my bone stock 100 but she did well. "The Wall" was the only legit obstacle that required my winch. The entrance was pretty knarly as well. Good times with good people.

Now to add my @cruiserpatch Red TBs and figure out what extended shocks/springs to get some more wheel travel.

I'm pretty sure you just needed a better spotter on 'the wall'. 🤣

What product did you use? Did you apply it directly to the fuel tank or the tank skid? Thanks
